Just want some advice please- Husband bought a van & never received the log book from garage he bought it from,£25 paid for new log book in April, van due for tax renewal 1st july 2010,still no log book, but got a letter on the 29th june stating DVLA was dealing with the request & would log book would be with him by 6th july.

Took the letter to local DVLA office along with docs to tax van as hubby is a self employed builder.

Got told he couldn't tax it as it was still in old keepers name. He got rather mad and caused a bit of a scene,he told them he needed it taxing as it was his works vehicle, they told him to get a bus to his jobs or take a taxi.

A manager came out,to quiten him down, but another customer backed him up by how rude the advisor was to him.

We are now on week three and STILL no log book,so thats 3 wks @ £500pw he has lost in earnings & lost the work as he couldn't attend & still has to pay the van insurance etc.

All the DVLA did was thrust a complaints form in his hand & said there was nothing they could do & it wasn't there fault.

They have had since April to sort the log book out we are now coming closer to august.

The complaints leaflet is a bit scarce with info.

Has anyone else had same problem or complained or claimed compensation?

When you husband bought the van, he should have been given the new keeper suppliment - the small slip. You can tax a vehicle with that.

He thought the same, when it came about he hadn't received the logbook.

He went through all the stuff he received when he bought the van but no green slip was in there hence why he is going through all this now.

Still not received a logbook & going on for the 4th week & no work has he has no vehicle.

He really should have made the purchase on condition he recieved all the documentation. Parting with money without the V5C or the New RK's slip is simply asking for trouble. I've also heard V5Cs are being held up pending a change in the documentation - the new RK dcument is to be RED (not blue) and has more information for keepers. It also has new anti fraud features. This won't help either...
