Hi. I don't have HDTV service so I'm unable to try this out. I was hoping someone can answer this question for me: What happens when you try to videotape an HDTV signal with either VHS or Betamax?

I'd also chip in with the fact that HDMI is digital and SCART is analogue.

If you have a HD digital box, it possibly has a scart output, but that will only be standard definition (you will be able to record this, but there will be no increase in resolution)

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

SVHS is no higher resolution, it's just not interlaced like standard VHS. Standard VHS only displays 240 rows of pixels at a time, then it displays the other 240 rows. SVHS shows over 400 per scan, giving the impression of a crisper picture.

Yes that was my thought-a better picture rather than increased res.

If you can record HDTV, it will only be recorded in standard resolution.

It is of course possible to record HD, using Sky/Virgin + services, or a HD/Blu-Ray recorder that supports HD.

I myself have a Windows Media Center PC setup that records my fave TV progs (although only in standard res). I do aim to upgrade this to HD recording though, for this Ill need:-

Virgin HD Box - Too replace my standard Virgin Box (I believe there is now a no monthly fee version)

HDMI HD capture Card (to replace my standard capture card).

Alas HD capture cards are a bit pricey and I will need a complete upgrade of my Windows Media PC.
