No not a business,a home address.

When able get a boiler fitted will need a meter, and if they remove will there be a reconnection fee?

standing charge!

Apprently a meter charges you £1.50 per week (Approx), and then supplies you gas, so if you do not purchase gas over the summer come winter yoo have to pre pay 1.5 x number of week before you can have gas! This in not prepayment, is just a robbing procedure!

And if you pay your gas in advance you are penilsed 10% (approx) for the privalige! so if you think prepayment would be a cheaper way to buy gasand electric you would be quite wrong! what a stick up for the poor!

These days most utilities do not have standing charges for private consumers but load the extra payment onto the first fuel used each bill period. No usage = no charge.

It seems to me outrageous that there is a standing charge for pre-payment meters. Complain to the regulator - they were supposed to be regulating these meters so that people on them were not charged more for their usage than those with credit meters.

  • 1 month later...

The conclusion.......

After several letters and complaints to NPOWER.

I recieve a telephone call!

They started saying I had to pay because the meter was installed in the house! Standing charge for a year!

I said but I have used NO gas. And the supply was no even connected! But they still wanted paying. I said NO, They said 50-50.

I said I not paying because I did not agree to anything, when i took on the house. I did not agree to use NPOWER or did they ask me,and I have used no gas - so im not paying the standard charge!

RESULT OK, will we stop sending demands and zero the bill, approx 1week later recieved a letter to confirm.

So dont accept the first answer!!

Hope this helps others
