Good experiences with ATOS

I was scared to death about my medical assessment because of all the horror stories read on the internet, but to my surprise it wasn't nearly as bad as people say. The man who assessment me was very kind and understanding of my condition and I was allowed to bring my partner for moral support which helped lots. My only complaint is it's taken nearly 2 months to find out if I passed or failed.

 

Just thought I'd share that experience for all those worried about the assessment.

Quite often the actual assessment is carried out efficiently and politely. Unfortunately the resulting 'medical report' is usually dissimilar to the evidence given by the attendent.

I presume you still don't know the outcome?

I passed and they backdated me as I've been on the assessment rate for many months.

my medical certificate ran out and when I went to my doctor he said that he received a note from them saying I didn't need one anyone because I passed the assessment? O.o

Is that right or is he mistaken?

Yip thats right, if you are awarded the 15 points and put into the relevent support or work focused group, you no longer will need to produce a sick note.

 

Well done, by the way. Its always great to hear positive stories and outcomes when dealing with ATOS.

 

I, myself am going away to fight them, as I had missed an appointment last week due to gastroenteritis and my hubby couldnt get through to them on the phone to cancel and now Ive had my benefit stopped!!!

Hi jonas87uk, sorry to put a damper on proceedings, but beware!

 

Depending on how you interpret the word "passed" re. the WCA it could be taken either way - passed as "fit for work" or passed as qualifying for ESA. I say this because I have heard of them telling Doctors not to do any more (un)fit notes in cases where claimants haven't scored the required 15 points, but never when the claimant has qualified for ESA.

 

I suggest that you clarify this with your Doctor because if you haven't qualified for ESA and wish to appeal this decision then you'll need to keep sending (un)fit notes in if you don't want your benefits to suddenly stop being paid. The standard letter they send to Doctors re. 'no more (un)fit notes is rather misleading and Doctors aren't actually compelled to follow the "advice", unfortunately the letters fail to point out that (un)well notes should continue to be sent when the claimant is appealing the decision.

Hi Evry1,

I too qualified for the Work Related Group; had my letter a few weeks ago. That letter akso stated that my doctor had been notified that no further (un)fit notes were required. So it is correct ,

Jonas claim has resulted in her qualifying for ESA - she has received her backdated monies.

 

It is correct that once the decision is made whether in favour of the claimant or not DWP issue a letter to the GP stating that no further certs are requried.

Ah yes, I somehow missed reading that line yesterday, thanks for clarifying that Erika - once again you have come to the rescue.
