Just transferred to eon and have received a £700 bill from npower.

This is despite my calling them between April and now to be told I was in credit (and mindful of doing this one time last year only to receive a big bill a week later) I specifically asked, 'so if I left today that is how my account would stand. She answered 'yes'.

I cancelled my direct debitlink3.gif with npower around April/May and received a letter telling me they noted my new payment arrangements and I was around £230 in credit so I was quite happy to arrange the transfer. But a few days ago I get my final bill from them which goes back to Dec 2009.

I feel their six month billing system is designed so customers can never get away and the fact that you can never receive an actual true picture of your account until the day the bill comes is scanadalous.

I would like to offer them £40 per month on standing order while I check around for ways of getting these figures checked. I worry though about what impact this arrangement will have on my credit file. I live in a tiny two bed roomed house and me and my daughters are out all day Monday to Friday. Despite this they were taking £149 per month from me.

I cannot understand how anyone can get a true picture of their account as what they say on the phone seems to be meaningless as they then find a whole load of usage to throw at you the minute you hang up.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with npower?

Your electric bill seems extortionately high to me. I am in a 3 bedroom house and I pay Southern Electric £84 a month - and am currently £200 in credit! I have just switched to British Gas who are going to charge me £75 a month (until they decide to put it up!) Npower must be ripping you off left, right and centre. Could you ask them what sort of tariff they are charging you? They must have some way that they can give you an accurate bill, and be prepared to put that in writing to you. If they won't then maybe you could put in a formal complaint to them and also the body who deals with energy companies. I wish you luck.

Thanks Mrs E. I expect their bill is accurate just on a rip off rate. Considering I have been with them around 10 years they have hardly been helpful in looking after a loyal customer. I have never been able to establish the true picture of my account anytime in between their six monthly billing period for about 18 months now.

  • 1 month later...

To finalise this matter, I ended up ringing them and am on a payment plan to pay of the bill at £55 per month. It will take forever. Eon are currently charging me a similar rate so I am still paying less than the £149 per month I was paying on direct debit to npower.

Not too happy with the tarrif from Eon either. They promised me I would be on much lower than I am with Npower and one of them is about the same! Another call I guess! I think they are all the blooming same!
