Hi folks. I've been on a DAS set up by the Scottish CAB now for 18 months - it was reading this forum prior to that, that helped me out. I'm in regular employment, been keeping up to date paying all bills - DAS, mortgage, utilities, council tax etc. Things are going fairly well and the 14 months of hell that life was before the DAS is now a distant memory.

The 11 year old car is now urgently needing replaced though - 130,000 miles and the gearbox has about had it. Friendly garage man advises me to scrap it! I need a car for work, not just getting there and back but also travelling around various places during work, often with passengers (I work with people with learning difficulties). I need a car to earn the money to pay the bills, but being on a DAS I'm not allowed any credit until completion (another 7 years). I do have a moderate surplus at the end of each month which I could use to buy say a £2k car over 2 years but the terms of the DAS say no.

Most of us need some form of transport. Does anybody who has been in a similar position have any hints as to how they've managed to resolve a similar issue using legitimate means.

Many thanks.

Just a general thing - it may be worth talking to a credit union.

If you can save into a credit union, and when you have enough saved then borrow from the credit union based on that (3 times your savings etc).

Not sure how it would impact on your DAS though.

There is no way around it - as no decent loan company would give you a loan with a das on your file.

you could try the CU but that will prob be the only place
