Hello, my mother has recently had a phone call from a company called 'Got u covered' who are demanding money to 'continue' providing cover for her sky tv, she informed them that she doesn't have sky anymore and they didn't really want to know! They said for me to write a letter to them to cancel. I have checked and they took £60 in 2008 and tried again in 2009 but it didn't go through, this is why they are ringing!

I have read a few things on the internet and it seems that even if she wrote to them they would still dilly-dally! Do you think i should just contact my bank and explain that basically she has been ripped off as she definitely didn't agree to this!!

Please answer if you can!

Hi,

Yes, looks like a lot of people are having problems with them.......

Complaints about satellite warranty providers should contact Consumer Direct which forwards them all to West Sussex Trading Standards, because the majority of providers operate in that area. West Sussex Trading Standards is aware of Got u covered. To contact Consumer Direct phone 08454 040506

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

If in doubt, you should seek the opinion of a Qualified Professional.

If you can, please donate to this site.

Help keep it up and active, helping people like you.

If you no longer require help, please do what you can to help others

Have you tried to contact the company?

If you call them on 0844 800 2791 they will be able to help.

If your mother entered into a contract with the company they will be able to provide you with proof. If they have her bank details then it is very likely that she did give these details to the company when she entered into a contract with them.

If you call them, they will be able to help.

Isn't there only a single company actually authorised by Sky to offer extended warranties on their equipment? I can't recall the name, but I'm almost 100% certain it isn't "Got U Covered", meaning that any 'warranty' they do offer will be useless anyway wont it? At best they'd probably give a second hand box bought on eBay.

Domestic and General the insurance company pay Sky millions a year to call themselves Sky Repair Plan and get Sky to recommend them to their customers.

Got u covered are an independant company that only use engineers that are ASA-Authorised Sky Agents or part of the CAI-Confederation of Approved Installers. Unlike Domestic and General, Got u covered specialise in Sky equipment and are not an insurance company. Got u covered do not have premiums that increase when you make a claim. You can claim as many times as you like with no further costs.

Customer Relations Team, First of all awful awful name for a company sounds like it is been ran by teenagers. Second WHY call someone to chase payment more than likely the DD was cancelled as they didn't want the service. The OP said the person demanded money from him/her and you was told the customer has not got Sky, why on earth do you need this in writing?!?! If i was the customer I would just ignore your company and if you kept calling send a telephone harassment letter. The MO of your company sounds like you pray on vulnerable people and force them to take something that is not needed as it is more than likely covered in there statutory rights. Instead of saying "you need to call us" take a look at your daft cancellation process.....

Our cancellation procedures are simple. You originally have a 7 working day cooling off period in which to cancel the Service Agreement. This period begins when you receive your documents, these state our full Terms and Conditions, if this is used you receive a full refund of any payments processed by our company. If this is not used then the minimum term of the Service Agreement is 12 months (unless agreed for a further time period). If you do not want the Service Agreement to automatically renew you have a full year to write to us to cancel, as long as it is 10 days prior to the renewal date. This has to be in writing, this is not something we as a company have just decided, it is in accordance with the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.

If customers no longer have Sky then we can cancel their Service Agreement if we receive a photo copy of their letter from Sky confirming they have cancelled.

We do not prey on venerable people. We do not know of people's personal circumstances. If you do not need this cover then don't take it out. If you do not want to continue with the service then write to us and we will cancel your Service Agreement when the term expires.

I would also like to mention that many people who have commented on similar sites to this have since been in contact with us and many of their issues have been resolved amicably, unfortunately they do not feel the need to inform others of that.

Please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help however we can.

If customer relations company is so convinced people would want to reknew yearly, why dont they ring yearly and get a taped yes or no, YEARLY, or send literature.

Surely they wouldnt want to come across people forgetting they have insurance with them.

Indeed you have advertised well that you like to tie people into unnecessary contracts I believe Domestic and General and other warranty providers give you longer than 7 days to cancel the contract and if its over that give you a prorata refund. If the OP is reading this i would suggest they raise this with your Local Trading Standards and get them to investigate the terms and conditions other "extended warrenties" companies have tried the above T&Cs are have been slapped on the wrist. Also why do you need to see a letter they have cancelled the agreement (you have no rights to see this), can't a customer just cancel for no reason, do they have to keep this agreement for as long as they have sky?? Also you say they have to agree 10 days before the end to cancel?? So you are forcing people to keep an agreement before its even started?!?

Another question I would like you to answer is in one of your posts you invited the customer to call you to resolve the issue, when in the last post you have said you have to write in to cancel?

Under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 you may cancel the Service Agreement by giving us notice in writing within 7 working days.

Any cancellation requests must be in a durable medium (writing) as per the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.

Customers do not have to keep this Service Agreement for as long as they have Sky. The minimum term is 12 months. Customers can write to request non-renewal of their Service Agreement however, it must be received 10 days prior to the expiry of the term.

If you have cancelled your subscription with Sky you can cancel your Service Agreement with us mid-term so long as you can provide us with proof of this from Sky.

Please do not hesitate to contact us on 0844 800 2791. Although cancellation requests must be in writing as per the Distance Selling Regulations, we can answer any queries you may have over the phone.
