This may sound like a daft question but depending on how long you have been driving the same car do insurers give a bigger discount on your premium?

Thats what I thought but my son, who currently has a claim in progress has been told the following by his insurance company,

"We give a discount for how long our policyholders own their vehicle as it is a reflection of the driving experience of that particular vehicle, therefore the longer you have owned the vehicle the larger the discount we give.If the vehicle hasn't been owned for as long as stated then this can result in an additional premium, you may still get a discount but the discount may not be as much"

Yes Insurers do take into account how long a vehicle has been owned, as well as no. of years driving experience and how many years you have been claim free.

It is not just about how much experience you have of driving a vehicle. If you have owned a car for awhie and have been claim free, then statistically you are less likely to claim and make changes to your policy.

I averagely own any car for between 6-8 years and I find that due to this I can obtain cheaper Insurance premiums. Without looking into the exact savings I would think I save about £30 a year, when compared with only owning a car for 1-2 years.

We could do with some help from you.
