Dose any one know what NHS Health Insurance NHS Trust's have to apply for?

are you referring to the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts which is the centralised risk pooling arrangement ?

 

or to some other kind of 'health insurance' ?

I was not refering to any particular Health Insurance scheme.

I was refering to All types of insurance that a health trust holds.

I'm sorry Barry. I don't know all that much about the NHS, but I thought insurance was offered by insurance companies. National Insurance was meant to pay for the NHS amongst other things, but I'm not sure that still holds.

 

Am I barking up the wrong tree? If I am, I apologise.

Insurance is there for both the individual and the organisation.

Weather that is Public or private they both need insurance cover.

The public purse needs to be protected some how.

 

I am told by NHS staff that this is so.

Maybe we're talking about different types of insurance? When I was in the industry 100 years ago, health insurance was either to pay people an income if they were unable to work through illness, or medical insurance covered people who wanted the option of private treatment.

 

I don't know if the public purse is insured, because National Insurance isn't actually a fund as such, just a form of extra tax, unless someone else knows otherwise..... And any deficit is covered by you and me, lucky us.

 

Can you tell us more about what NHS staff have told you at all?

There is insurance to cover accidential negligence distruction of furniture and faulty equipment.

 

There is also insurance to cover the trust for staff contracts.

 

The Public purse dose not cover evrything. We need to get a comment from those within the Services before we make a conclusion or any hypothesis.

Hi Barry. As you know, I never worked for the NHS and while we're waiting for someone who actually knows the facts , I will add a bit to what I said.

 

When we did the insurance exams, we were taught that some very big organisations, mainly government ones, were 'self-insured'. That meant that they had sufficient funds available to cover any losses that might occur.

 

Maybe someone could tell you if this is still the case? Guys?

CNST and RPSWT are risk pooling 'self insurance' for the NHS that covers a lot of things CNST covering medical negligence ( as well as the insurance that individual practitioners may hold) and RPST covering other insurance things

 

iirc the excesses on claims can be quite high i remember being told the excess the ambulance service has is something like 25 k per claim on it's 'motor insurance'

 

also insurers ( or risk pools) can attempt to seek to reclaim payouts from those deemed responsible for the insured's losses ...
