Twoman is incorrect,if a direct debit is set up for a certain amount then ANY attempt to take more than the set up amount is classed as theft, and can be delt with as such, plus you have the banks money back guarantee with a direct debit which you don't get with with a standing order. The only difference is that with a direct debit you MUST let the bank AND the creditor know if you cancel the direct debit,a standing order YOU can cancel without informing the creditor.

Gearjamma,

My experience with DD is that anybody who has arranged a mandate with can take more as and when. All the advice on here from more experienced caggers is NOT to set up a DD with any DCA

I agree with twoman; whilst they should only take the amount of the DD, we've all heard enough stories on here of DCA's taking more then the DD amount. STanding Orders only - so you have full control of what's leaving your bank account.

This thread was finished in May 2010, so quite what gearjamma thought they were doing by commenting on this issue which has already been resolved is something of a mystery?

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!

Hi BB

I've unapproved a post above pending investigation and have unapproved your response as sadly it didn't make sense with the original post gone.
