    • I can only speak from personal experience. But a similar thing happened to me. Seriously dented door.  I made the other insurance pay. They regarded it as a write off. Took the money, replaced the door. Never heard anything more about it.    Except clearly someone sold my details to claims company, because I got loads of calls in bad English for a few month's
    • The incident was 03rd March 2024 - and that was the only letter that I have received from MET 15th April 2024 The charge I paid was at the Stansted Airport exit gate (No real relevance now - I thought this charge was for that!!).   Here is the content of email to them (Yes I know I said I was the driver !!!!) as said above -  I thought this charge was for that!! "Stansted Airport" Dear “To whom it may concern” My name is ??  PCN:  ?? Veh Reg: Date of Incident: 03rd March 2024 I have just received a parking charge final reminder letter, dated 10th April 2024 - for an overstay.  This is the first to my knowledge of any overstay. I am aware that I am out of the 28 days, I don’t mean to be rude, this feels like it is a scam My movements on this day in question are, I pulled into what looked like a service station on my way to pick my daughter and family up from Stansted airport. The reason for me pulling into this area was to use a toilet, so I found Starbucks, and when into there, after the above, I then purchased a coffee. After which I then continued with my journey to pick my daughter up. (however after I sent this email I remember that Starbucks was closed so I then I walked over to Macdonalds) There was no signs about parking or any tickets machines to explains about the parking rules. Once at Stansted, I entered and then paid on exit.  So Im not show where I overstayed my welcome.. With gratitude
    • Just to enlarge on Dave's great rundown of your case under Penalty. In the oft quoted case often seen on PCNs,  viz PE v Beavis while to Judges said there was a case for claiming that £100 was a penalty, this was overruled in this case because PE had a legitimate interest in keeping the car park free for other motorists which outweighed the penalty. Here there is no legitimate interest since the premises were closed. Therefore the charge is a penalty and the case should be thrown out for that reason alone.   The Appeals dept need informing about what and what isn't a valid PCN. Dummies. You should also mention that you were unable to pay by Iphone as there was no internet connection and there was a long  queue to pay on a very busy day . There was no facility for us to pay from the time of our arrival only the time from when we paid at the machine so we felt that was a bit of a scam since we were not parked until we paid. On top of that we had two children to load and unload in the car which should be taken into account since Consideration periods and Grace periods are minimum time. If you weren't the driver and PoFA isn't compliant you are off scot free since only the driver is liable and they are saying it was you.

    • Hello,

On 15/1/24 booked appointment with Big Motoring World (BMW) to view a mini on 17/1/24 at 8pm at their Enfield dealership.

Car was dirty and test drive was two circuits of roundabout on entry to the showroom.  Was p/x my car and rushed by sales exec and a manager into buying the mini and a 3yr warranty that night, sale all wrapped up by 10pm.  They strongly advised me taking warranty out on car that age (2017) and confirmed it was honoured at over 500 UK registered garages.

The next day, 18/1/24 noticed amber engine warning light on dashboard , immediately phoned BMW aftercare team to ask for it to be investigated asap at nearest garage to me. After 15 mins on hold was told only their 5 service centres across the UK can deal with car issues with earliest date for inspection in March ! Said I’m not happy with that given what sales team advised or driving car. Told an amber warning light only advisory so to drive with caution and call back when light goes red.

I’m not happy to do this, drive the car or with the after care experience (a sign of further stresses to come) so want a refund and to return the car asap.

Please can you advise what I need to do today to get this done.

      Many thanks

    • We have finally managed to obtain the transcript of this case.

The judge's reasoning is very useful and will certainly be helpful in any other cases relating to third-party rights where the customer has contracted with the courier company by using a broker.
This is generally speaking the problem with using PackLink who are domiciled in Spain and very conveniently out of reach of the British justice system.

Frankly I don't think that is any accident.

One of the points that the judge made was that the customers contract with the broker specifically refers to the courier – and it is clear that the courier knows that they are acting for a third party. There is no need to name the third party. They just have to be recognisably part of a class of person – such as a sender or a recipient of the parcel.

Please note that a recent case against UPS failed on exactly the same issue with the judge held that the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 did not apply.

We will be getting that transcript very soon. We will look at it and we will understand how the judge made such catastrophic mistakes. It was a very poor judgement.
We will be recommending that people do include this adverse judgement in their bundle so that when they go to county court the judge will see both sides and see the arguments against this adverse judgement.
Also, we will be to demonstrate to the judge that we are fair-minded and that we don't mind bringing everything to the attention of the judge even if it is against our own interests.
      This is good ethical practice.

It would be very nice if the parcel delivery companies – including EVRi – practised this kind of thing as well.

I'm writing regarding a Glasgow removal company who appear to be consistently (Edit) customers and failing to provide even a basic standard of service.

I have moved from Glasgow to Gillingham in the south-east of England and was looking forward to starting a new life with delivery of my belongings from Glasgow.

These items included my books, DVDs, records, clothes and furniture.

These had been in storage with the company for around two years.

I paid £585 for delivery of these items on 13th January and have still to receive them.

I have received no contact from the company since making payment on 7th January.

They have avoided my telephone calls and on the rare occasion that I have been able to get through to them

they have consistently told me that my goods were in Slough awaiting delivery when in reality they have never left Glasgow.

I had to involve the police in order to confirm this.

They have had to remove their "free index" site due to the number of negative reviews.

I am having to instigate court proceeding in order to get my money back and I will hopefully then be able to receive delivery through another company.

On reading the other reviews on the internet (which have since been removed) it would appear that several other people have had experiences similar to mine.

The details of the company involved are:

Caledonian Moving and Storage

Unit 1

Possilpark Trading Centre

Shame you had to find out the hard way - however, did they also charge you a storage fee? Knowing the area pretty well, the earehouses there are often broken into and nothing of value should ever be left anywhere near there, not for two months, never mind two years!

Do you know WHAT goods actually remain? I do not think they are members of the movers federation (can't remember the name for it), only the Federation of Small Businesses - who are not much use as a regulator or arbitrator.

The police have confirmed that my stuff is still there so hopefully that is the case. I'm too far away to check for myself and I just have to wait and see whether they deliver it or not.

My Name is David Howie, I the founder and one of the current directors of Caledonian Moving & Storage.

Internet reviews are hard to remove, this one being a perfect example.

However other than (Edit) who has left this review,

I could only find two other negative ones,

compared to almost 30 positive ones!

Genuine bad reviews are not something that will ever stop as we will always have an occasional job where something does not go to plan.

But considering we carry out thousands of home removals a year all over the UK and indeed all over the World,

I think this small handful of negative reviews shows the vast majority of our customers are happy witht he service we provided.

I also hope the reason behind these bad reviews has been addressed so they have made us a stronger, better removal firm.

I have no intention of having these reviews removed as customers deserve an honest, unbaised opinion of any company.

Personally, I don't trust any company with hundreds of great reviews and no negative's.

Unfortunatley this is not a genuine review. Mr (Edit) didn't update his details so we quoted him for a delivery to Surrey.

When he decided to tell us it was actually Gilligham (anyone from London will know this is a much longer drive than appears on a map, 2 hours, more?).

As he had been a long term storage client I decided not to increase the charge, although he would now be the last delivery, between 3 and 5.

On the delivery day, it had snowed heavily and we were unable to make it before 5, missing the delivery.

Mr (Edit) did have to call us to chase up his delivery I admit but was informed we would need to reshedule.

The next day, Saturday our office was closed, when we returned to work on Monday

Mr (Edit) had caused chaos, there were so many messages our phone system had jammed up, tens of emails, reviews everywhere!

For the record Mr (Edit) was in storage or 1 year not 2, that doesn't make a big difference but just another little fib to make Caledonian Look worse.

Also when the police attended and one of the girls in the office explained the situation and showed them paperwork and emails confirming our story,

they contacted Kent police and suggested pressing charges aganist Mr (Edit) for wasting thier time!

If only there were as many website where genuine, accredited and respected companies like Caledonian could leave reviews for untrustworthy consumers other firms should avoid.

In regards to Buzby's remarks, you clearly jave no knowledge of the area or you would have mentioned our yard is shared with Pickfords main scottish office,

Crown Worldwide Records Managment, Hoults Removals, and Allied Vehicles who hold 16 Million of stock on site.

You make no mention that some of these warehouses have been bonded by HM Customs And Exice.

Or of the 24 hours manned security with gatehouise at both of the controlled entrances, or our state of the art fire and intruder monitoring.

I suggest you do a little research before making wild and inaccurate comments, we are not 'a warehouse' we a professional storage company.

All the goods remain, we havn't lost them we have actually delivered them to a contractors warehouse in Surrey, exactly where we quoted for.

Regards

David Howie

The date agreed for delivery of my belongings was Wednesday 13th January.

I have documentation from Caledonian on my desk which proves this.

How could the next day have been a Saturday as Mr Howie claims?

I had the day off from work on the Wednesday and waited all day for my items to arrive.

I called Mr Howie at 1600 hours where he told me that he would "need to call the warehouse in Slough" to see what had happened.

He promised to call me back to inform me as to what was happening.

He did not do so.

They then did not answer my phone calls on the Thursday or Friday and I entered the weekend having no knowledge of the whereabouts of my items,

whether they had been stolen and whether or not they would ever actually be delivered.

I had to call on a blocked number the next week, as Mr Howie was deliberately avoiding my phone calls,

and I was given the continual excuse "i'll need to call them."

This was the only statement that he made for the next month until I involved the police to make sure that my items were still in his possession.

These events have continued for the last two months.

He has given continual excuses- the items being too heavy to lift etc. but I am still no closer to receiving my belongings.

An internet search found several websites which contained negative reviews from other customers who had similar experiences to mine.

Their "free index" site is no longer operational as they removed it due to the large number of negative reviews.

This is in complete contradiction to Mr Howie's claims of transparency.

These are my belongings from my home in Glasgow.

They are very precious to me.

I have paid Caledonian Moving and Storage on time, every month for storage of my items and again paid them on time for delivery.

Perhaps Mr Howie considers this an acceptable way to treat a customer.

Personally, in my years as a consumer I have never been treated with such contempt and disrespect.

If my items arrive I will be happy to post on here and acknowledge it.

Until then, it is only fair that consumers in the Glasgow area are warned about the actions of this company.

This is the email I received on 29th March:

"As agreed I am sending you an email.

At present your goods are stored in a secure warehouse with no restrictions

for release. This is standard procedure for deliveries we have in your area

and in accordance with contract conditions.

I am currently waiting on our sub-contractor to confirm delivery date and

hope to have this information by close of business tomorrow at the latest."

I have had no contact from David Howie since then, yet he describes his company as "respected".

Is David Howie still a Director.

Just found this review...................not sure how old it is.

The owner/manager Mr Howie acts like a child trying to run a business.

He happily took our money for almost two years to pick up and store our household items while we were livng out of the country.

However, when we returned to claim our items, it took almost four days (even though we had given 6 weeks notice)

for them to provide us access to all of our items.

Mr Howie avoided answering calls and actually ran away from discussions when we tried to have conversations in person.

Our items were not wrapped as promised so the soft goods came out damp and musty smelling after almost 2 years in storage.

There were numerous items missing or damaged but Mr Howie refuses to provide insurance details

(even though we paid a monthly fee to maintain insurance on the goods).

He claims that no items were missing even though we provided the inventory list clearly showing the items were stored with him.

One very important item was a box of family, wedding, baby photos.

After he adamently claimed that we had all of our items, we stopped by and saw a box sitting at the front of his storage unit.

We saw our name on it and fortunately it was our photos.

We have contacted a solicitor as Mr Howie is no longer returning calls or responding to emails (other reviewers on other sites state the same).

All that is left for me to do is to warn you, dear consumer to avoid this man and this business at all costs.

If you choose to ignore this review, then please be sure to get everything in writing from Mr Howie in advance.

We were dealing remotely and he contantly responded to emails with calls to avoid putting anything on paper....

Hello,

I have read many bad reviews regarding Calendonian Removals and am wondering if these people have had their issues resolved?

We are having similar problems to those who have previously posted on this site about this company.

We have recently moved to Australia from Glasgow and some of our goods didn't arrive.

We are certain the remaining goods are in their warehouse as we were there when David Howie loaded them from our car into a wooden crate separate from our other items.

It is those particular items that haven't made it to Australia and were not included on the received inventory list.

We believe they have simply been missed, and this is fine, this kind of thing happens all the time.

Our main issue now is getting our items back and trying to get in touch with David Howie.

David Howie refuses to talk to us, he doesn't respond to emails or text messages.

We are keen to hear from other people and how they had their problems resolved?

I think our next step will be police and/or lawyers.

Regards,

Angela

We are having trouble with Caledonian Moving and Storage, they wont answer our calls and we are going out our minds frustrated as to whats going on with our stuff. David Howie is so unprofessional and this company is an absolute joke. We were just wondering if any of you guys got your problems resolved and what steps you took to get there.

Thanks in advance, The Fergusons

I would seriously avoid using this company.

The company name is registered under David Howie's parents, however they have nothing to do with the running of the business.

We have been told by a previous employee, this is because his last business went bust.

This does not surprise me, given the way he treats his clients.

Caledonian moved our household items from Glasgow to Australia.

Some items were left behind and our attempts to retrieve them have failed.

David Howie refuses to take our calls, he hung up on me last week.

He doesn't respond to emails and has told his employee not to talk to us.

We have now involved the police, who are investigating.

Anyone else having issues, I'd advise you speak to Maryhill Police - they are terrific and will assist you.

By the way, most of the positive reviews you see on review websites are written by him!!

Update:

After five people filing police reports,

David Howie owner of Caledonian was interviewed by Maryhill Police Glasgow for three hours.

He signed a written statement stating he would give back our items if we sent an agent around to retrive them.

Thankfully for us, this is happened and we now have our items, although some things are still missing.

Unfortunately for the other four parties that complained,

they are still having issues with David Howie and haven't had their items returned.

David Howie told one other party, he doesn't give monkey's about the police.

Charming man indeed!

All I can do is warn people about Caledonian and David Howie.

Would NOT recommend this company.

You have a very sad and pathetic life dont you?

I would urge you to seek professional help, or just get a job or a hobby, something to keep you busy,

This is discraceful, he might well go up the google rankings, but if people follow the links and see the kind of emails he sends then it wont bring in any business !!
