Just bounced over here from the main Advent thread. Dont know if this is of any help but i'm paying direct debit to BPF and I got my account put on hold as soon as Advent went under. I requested a letter confirming that this was the case.

Before I got that though I got a letter saying I had missed payments, demanding monies etc. I phoned em up straight away and they told me that it was basically a clerical error as those letters are sent out automatically and that my account being on hold was an exceptional case which has to be administered by hand. Basically told me to ignore the demand letter. I asked for that to be put in writing which they have actually done and included in that letter was the confirmation of my account being on hold.

Don't hold your breath.

If they have issued a written demand that will stand on the record. They will have no recollection of phone conversations.

On xxxxx you informed me my account was on hold, however now you have issued an arrears letter which will in fact be reflected on my credit file.

The letter is dated xxxxxxx

As there is NO service being provided and account is on hold the Direct Debit was cancelled on your instruction. xxxxxx

You are aware of your responsibility under the Data Protection Act to ensure that information reported to the CRA's is accurate and if not so, gives cause of action for damages if shown not to be the case.

In light of your previous letter I insist that you withdraw the arrears notice and modify the data the data that you are reporting.

Please confirm by return that you have done so.

Hi there. Sorry I was probably not clear, and this is not to defend BPF in any way but I have actually received a letter from them telling me I can ignore the written demand for late payment and that it was sent out in error/automatically/unneccesarily/etc.

Hi Boosh,

No problem Haven't got nothing back from them yet, they've not been smart at answering these letters and they don't refer to anything I've written before.

but within 5 days had slapped a charge on for unpaid DD, Quick enough to do that :-x

It was actually Cashins who worded that letter and helped me with it this site's been a godsend don't know where I'd have been without it. :D

Hi Bluedo

I understand that martin has been very busy, he has also been very quiet, if you have more contact with him than the rest of us then the question on how he is getting on would be very helpful. I have had a letter from BPF after the FO got in contact with them, but they are using a cardiff address, I've been sending all my mail to the Glasgow address, do you know what that is all about?

In March they shut the Glasgow office and moved it to Cardiff but you'll notice it's a PO Box number in Glasgow well that mail will probably be redirected to Cardiff.

If you make sure anything you send is recorded delivery then they'll not be able to deny receiving it.and you can track it.

I've sent a message see if we can get some advice here.

It's tough enough without getting payment demands on top that's more stress it's a nightmare

Hi

I was and Advent student, I took out a loan with Barclays Partner Finance and started paying straight away. I started my course in October 08, but put it on hold in November 09 due to a family bereavement and I have not as yet passed any exams.

I paid my loan off (after changing my financial situation) in August 09, so I do not currently make payments to Barclays, but have paid them just less than £6000 for training.

After everything that has happened, and after assessing Computeach, both before I chose to study with Advent, and again now, I do not wish to continue my training. I am now £6000 out of pocket, which is a huge amount of money to me.

Do you have any advice for me considering that I have already paid Barclays in full?

I have called Barclays and asked if I can cancel and have my money back twice. The first time I was told that if I did not wish to continue after I had been given the option of studying with someone else, that I would be eligible for compensation, however the second time I called, I was told that there was no way I would get my money back. I have not yet written to Barclays, or responded to the Computeach letter.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

With regards to Barclays Partner Finance has anyone ever succeeded in achieving refunds?

On this site - no.

There have been reports on other sites but they appear to be just that - reports.
