Does anyone know of any way of getting a history of benfits I've claimed, along with dates? I have some outstanding council tax, between the years 2002 - 2006. I know I was claiming JSA at various periods over that time, and on speaking to the council they want dates etc to see if something can be done retrospectively. The problem I have is, on speaking to the Jobcentre, they have no record of any previous claims between those dates, only my current claim.

So, as the Jc seem unable to help, does anyone have any ideas?

Put the request in writing to the Jobcentre that dealt with your claim, they may not have records on their system but they can check the central computer or CIS as they call it and get dates from there :)

Hi, I once asked for a duplicate letter because I had lost it and was told that they are only kept a certain time because of data protection. I dont really believe it though, what if they were trying to accuse someone of fraud, I bet they could produce all the paper work then.

Send a subject access request for the period 2002 - 2006. The maximum cost for this is £10 and they must produce a response within 40 days. (Sometimes they will waive the fee, but are not obliged to).

The jobcentre will only have limited access to your records, but historic claims can be located by higher access level users.

Information is generally kept for 14 months from the date it stops being relevant. This would normally be the end of a claim, but yes, if there was an ongoing fraud investigation it would likely be considered to be relevant at least until the investigation was concluded and the matter resolved one way or another.

  • 3 weeks later...

Who would I address the sar to? Only asking because have previously handed paperwork etc in to jc at front desk, only to find out they've been 'lost'...

I'm hoping they've still got the info, I just need dates for the benefit claims, otherwise I'm going to be hit with a £2k bill for council tax.

Its strange they cannot find any letters that tells them when you claimed benefits.

When i was accused of benefit fraud they had all my previous income support forms and all my previous housing benefit forms i had filled in to claim the benefits. They had the forms from 1996 until 2007 when i was called down for my icu.

My alleged partner at the time was able to go down to our local dhss office and get a print out of all the times he was claiming benefit. He done this so i could say he was claiming benefits at a certain time and also to prove he had a different address from me.

Have you tried going to your local dhss office where you made your claim for jsa to see if they can tell you when you where on benefits.
