Need advise asap

Can someone give me advise regarding a wages arrestment served on me by sheriffs officers for an ongoing council tax arrears bill . I was paying the bill by direct debit ever month until the turn of the year when i was laid off by my employer for 4 weeks which only lasted for 2 weeks but I had to do a weeks lying time again so didn't actually get a full wage till end of Jan 2010 and in the interm I cancelled the direct debit instruction because as previous stated I had no money coming in. I contacted the sheriff officers and explained the situation but was stone walled by the person I spoke to and I ASKED ABOUT the re instatment of the direct dedit but was told the arrestment would stand and I could set up the direct debit anyway which means I would be paying at a guess in the region of £120 D/D a month and £50-60 a week arrestment which I cant afford. WHAT CAN I DO ?

Hiya,

 

Just for info,You do not need to pay anymore that the wages arrestment. Some people actually prefer this as its a standard payment automatically deducted and then they cannot force you to pay anymore.

 

But if you have received a charge for payment and want to make an arrangement via the courts then we can help you with that.

 

Maroondevo has supplied the the peaperwork required to be lodged at the issuing court,

 

a couple of questions:

 

Is this only for one years? or do you owe more than 1 years?

 

what date was the charge for payment received?

 

what sheriffs officers is it?

 

do you want to arrange a payment through the courts or do you wish to allow the wages arrestment to go through? - bearing in mind that this may only be of benefit if you only owe within one years or they have accumalated others?

 

also if you go ahead with the wages arrestment, it is improtant you try and mainitain the next years or they will start going for bank arresments.
