Found it lovely watching the fish in the aquarium shop and as been unwell and way too stressed thought how nice it would be to sit at home on sofa and do same thing.

Any how did something silly and shouldnt have speant the carpet money, but hey ho I did. The tank arrived and its a belter of 1.2m my 50cm high and I looked at it covering the entire front room floor boxed up and thought, oh god Ive done it again. But to be fair this time the kids are so so excited.

Kids got very peed off with me trying to insist I could assemble the stand, got the new powerdrill out to find I only needed allen key, dope, they said I needed one in store. Next was lifting tank with help of kids onto stand and it didnt collapse:lol: Nearly crippled the three of us in the process, note to self, dont move it again.

Has anyone realised how much goes into keeping a tank running and the water care necessary. I went into shock reading the books, but think we will have fun and I will have to try not to kill the poor fish in the process of them calming me down:lol::lol::lol:

And to the main purpose of my thread, anyone know anything about a warm tank as I dont:p I want some nice fishies and need them to be hardy ones in my house hold, any ideas?

Were thinking about this one big fat fish rehomed by store three times for being aggressive and five years old, but I am worried I will kill the poor thing, so think I will avoid him, sorry nemo.

Any advice on setting up a first tank which looks near the size of a bath appreciated. I have all the necessary with the tank as in heater, exterior pump, lighting. Think Ive taken on quite a bit:eek: But should keep me busy:lol:

Got the bubble making wreak and colored stones to go in when infection on hands calms down, dont want to put anything yuk wise from my hands in the tank, maybe rubber gloves are okay?

I can see my son taking over reins of maintenance to keep them alive and he seems keen, so goody. xx

I thought my 4 year old was being really good for a few days by eating all his food (plate completely empty). Then we noticed a strange smell and discovered all our fish had bought the farm.

Apparently they don't like to eat beans on toast, shepherds pie, peas, gravy, lasagne or mushrooms etc, etc.....

Be a good few years before we have any more pets. The kids are asking for a dog at the moment. I have told them. A dog is not just for Christmas.

With a bit of luck, there is some left over for Boxing Day;):D

Well it was supposed to help me relax, untill:eek::eek: I joined a fishy forum and read a thread about weight load of fish tanks. I hadnt thought about that and as not yet filled with water hurridly looking for which way the joist run. Wouldnt want to be getting my cod and chips out of the freezer in the garage and ending up with aquarium on my head now would I. Apparantly filled with water these tanks can weigh equivalent of a small family car:eek: and my house is council timber framed

Oh sh*t hadnt thought of that when wanting nemo.

Apparantly its 54 uk gallons. Ive found out a lot of timber framed houses are stronger than newer houses, so hope they are right:confused:

'a pint of pure water weighs a pound and a quarter'

so, by Charley's maths that's about a quarter of a ton, before the fish:rolleyes:
