JC no one said you cant say these words......its the context in which they are used thats the problem.

You are an intelligent guy and I respect what you have to say....but there have to be some ground rules, some limitations, and some common sense.

Otherwise it would be a free for all.

If you walk down the street and call someone a thief they can have you done for libel..these are not rules I have made up they are the law of the land and they are there for people who want to use them....which they very ofter do !

I dont need to spell out the implications that could follow here but just use your head.

Constructive banter is fine but when it starts getting below the belt then its time to pack it in.

This is the second time I have had to mention this and I hope it stops.

Theres absolutely no excuse for it........you can all have exchanges without resorting to low level inuendos and foul remarks......if thats not at all possible then perhaps its better to say nothing at all.

Has anyone any knowledge of what happens if you sign a document when you are not in your right mind, due to a diagnosed mental illness?

Yes, if somebody has a mental illness that causes them to do things they later regret and are easily influenced by people and don't fully understand what they are signing, can they still be held to those agreements - this being told to salesman at the time

i read all these post with interest. my ex is having problems with these guys. She had arrears from council tax from a couple of years ago which had been passed onto a bailiff so she needed money quickly. In desperation she ended up going to LBL and borrowed £600) She was late by just one week with her second payment (£188 per month on a £600 pound loan!). They immediately became aggressive and threatening and constantly rang and harrassed her. She has made every payment now for four months and still owes more than when she started.

I only found out about this recently because when i went to pick up the kids she was pretty upset.

I will keep reading these threads so that i can advise her what to do. These lowlife need shooting, preying on the people who can leat afford it!!!

Lord hansard 2005:

£32 million was owed on credit cards; now it is over £49 billion. There is clear evidence that some consumers are suffering significant harm. We cannot deny that irresponsible or unscrupulous lenders can destroy lives. Borrowers can find themselves with credit agreements that they either do not need or do not understand. Often, the most vulnerable in society are disproportionately affected. More than half of the over-indebted households have incomes of less than £7,500 per year.

Noble Lords may be aware of the case which the Under-Secretary of State described to the other place. The case concerned a couple, both of whom suffered from mental illness, whose initial loan of £500 spiralled to debts of more than £5,000. But in addition to this, the couple also owed another £19,000 to other lenders, and had no means to repay it. We need to drive out irresponsible lending, not only to protect consumers, but also to ensure that credible businesses can operate with confidence in a competitive market. We also want to empower consumers to make informed borrowing decisions. This relies on transparency and clarity of agreements with lenders, and on consumer confidence in appropriate levels of rights and redress. In this context, the Government are committed to full-scale consumer credit reform with one over-riding aim: to create a fair, clear and competitive consumer credit market for the 21st century.

Noble Lords will no doubt be aware of the important work already completed by the Government in this area. Our consumer credit White Paper of 2003 set out the Government's agenda. Since then we have introduced secondary legislation, developed initiatives for tackling over-indebtedness, and run pilot projects to tackle illegal money lending. Our secondary legislation has standardised the method by which APR is calculated for running account credit, so that consumers can compare credit advertisements with confidence. We have required lenders to provide, at the outset, key information clearly on the product, and we have made early settlement charges fairer and more transparent for consumers.

The Bill builds on the good progress we have already made. We have consulted carefully and widely, with business, consumer groups and regulators. I am confident that this input has helped to get this legislation right.

The Bill itself is built around three key themes: enhancing consumer rights and redress; improving the regulation of consumer credit businesses; and ensuring that regulation is appropriate. Our first key objective is to enhance consumer rights and redress. We believe that consumers should have the right to challenge unfairness where it exists and obtain redress where appropriate. The current tools available to consumers for obtaining redress or solving credit disputes are, at best, limited. Where disputes with lenders arise,

Hiya

Sorry to hear about another victim of LBL. You are right they do prey on the people who they know can't afford repayments and charges, all they are interested in is the car and add unlawfull charges to force repossession.

I tried to pay off my arrears by cheque and they didn't cash them, i didn't have a debit card. One time the girl had my cheque in her hand and told me it was my fault my car was going because i was refusing to pay  lol

The threatning behavior is standard with them regardless of situation. Trading standards have taken up investigation on my case but they are also looking into how this company operates on the whole. I am taking legal action too and they will be "named and shamed" in media aswell soon - will keep you posted

CAR NOW BEEN REPOSSESSED!! Was taken by balliff who had no paperwork and i refused to sign anything so didn't get anything but a business card and stupid letter advising what to do. I tried to pay the loan off by cheque and chased it up with logbook loans, they said it was too late for cheque and wanted cash through the bank.

I asked them about number plate, at first they said it wouldn't be a problem giving me the plate back and they would get back to me, of course they didn't so i called back and they said tough its our car and our number plate, they have obviously discovered it is worth 22k but means much more than that to me on personal level, of course they didn't care about that bit. I know the DVLA say the number plate belongs to the car etc but i know they will take it off the car and sell it so this can't be right?? I was in process of transfering the number plate with DVLA and car registered to my parents so don't know how i stand??

Trading standards have now made my case urgent so we will see what happens

Any advice on number plate????

Yeah boo, we all know there is no sentiment in the shark world hehe!!

I still have V5 and have got new plates made up, not sure if that makes a difference, according to what i know its the right of the registered keeper to retain the number plate which we still are. Problem I have had is that DVLA wrote to my mums address and didn't get letter in time and they want serial number of the tax disc which is obviously on the car. Not sure if its legal to do it if the car is in their possession?????

Does anyone know how they get the cars registered to them with DVLA? They don't have a current V5 or my permission, i am sure they have their ways though but I have heard of cars being sold at auction without papers n stuff.

I am looking forward to my day in court with them and trading standards findings, just number plate issue more urgent plllllllleeeeaaseeeeee heeeellllp!!!!!

I watched the programme which made my blood boil. My question is does all posts on this thread apply to private balliffs also? My encounters have all been with private ones and if court balliffs get away with what I saw god knows the dirty tricks private ones are getting away with.

Regarding the peacefull entry topic, does this apply to cars? Somebody i know was pulled up on a busy road by a balliff who did not identify himself and snached keys from ignition, does this mean he had peacefull entry because they opened the window to find out who the hell nearly caused a crash. They called 999 but balliff just got on the phone and told them a load of waffle then police gave balliff permission to take it even though he had no papers or proper ID. This was all outside the school of his child.

I will be happy to write to mp about my own experiences also with private balliffs, do i write via the links posted? Balliff I encountered laughed in my face and scared my children.

@nellie75:

Get that document checked out ok as to it's authenticity? as a bill of sale/lien,proves one thing though they have been reading/watching this forum and we are aware who you are!.:D

Looks like there doing a en mass application in the high court to enforce there rights over the numerous bill's of sale/lien's? message to LBL Ltd yer too late Armageddon is upon you!.:D

Yes VJR they are watching this forum without a doubt. My car has been repossessed so do you think i can assume they have had the bill of sale enforced in high court cos i think they know who i am, had details i didn't give them etc I would have thought i would receive something from the court though to inform me???? I have had a house nearly repossesed before and i recieved letters from the local county courts well in advance of hearing so i could attend, i take it the same doesn't apply to bill of sale agreements:confused:

hi everyone. I have been watching this forum with interest over the last day or so as tommorow I will be borrowing £1500 on my car from this company. I understand I will have to pay £247 a month for 1 year and 1 month and I am happy with this as I cannot get the money any other way. Can some people please just be honest here - is the reason you are all complaining simply because you got the loan, then realised it was way too expensive (which lets face it, it is) and decided you didnt want to pay the rest? honesty please. other than that does anyone else have any other reason to NOT take the loan out if they are aware of the intrest rates etc? if so then can you provide some examples of why I shouldnt take the loan out? what other stuff does the company do? if I take the loan out and make every payment on time is there any other cause for concern with them? I will basically decide on the loan from the comments i hope to get back from this. thanks for all the comments you will be posting in advance.

The main complaints that seem to stand out from this thread relate to the customer service received from LBL and also the level of charges they impose is people are late with payments. And you are happy with borrowing £1500 and paying back £3211 over 13 months? That is a horrific rate of interest!!!
