I have recently received a ground rent demand for 2010 for a leasehold property I sold last August 2009 (the ground rent was all paid and up to date for 2009). I called the management company and explained this but they said I would still have to pay until they recieved the 'notice of transfer' from the buyers solicitor.

I contacted my own solicitor who wrote to both the management company and the buyers solicitor to highlight the situation. The reply came back from the buyers solicitor that the notice had been provided so no more could be done.

Yesterday I recieved a final demand to pay the ground rent in 7 days or to expect to pay debt recovery costs as well as the ground rent due for 2010. I called the management company who simply claim that they have not received the notice and until they do they will persue me for the money.

I have been back in contact with my solicitor who said he can send more letters to the buyers solicitor and the management company but there was nothing more he could do since the action to supply the notice could not come from him.

Has anyone any ideas of any further actions I could take to resolve this? It seems crazy to me that I am still liable to pay ground rent until a solicitor I have no contract with resends the notice. If he refuses what can I do?

Thank you for any help.
