I sent my first letter asking HSBC to return the £1584.00 of charges (mainly for going over overdraft).

Their reply says they do not agree with my contention, and in their terms and conditions it clearly states the charges. They also say that even though this letter is not the response i'm looking for, if I still have problems I should contact the Financial Ombudsman Service (they kindly enclosed a leaflet) as this is represents their final response on this matter.

What should I do next? Write another letter?, contact Ombudsman or start legal proceedings?

I'm really struggling to get my head round how to calculate the interest that is to be applied to my claim. I have read the notes in the faq, but still confused. I am currently filling in my online claim forms and could do with some help.

They owe me £1752 since Jan 2003, do I calculate 8% of full amount from this date or do I do it month by month? and What about the daily rate?

MODERATED post moved .... please keep to the one thread , this is for your benefit and the benefit of everyone following your claim

Read the FAQ...there is a spreadsheet that calculates the 8% apr. It does it all for you, all you do is enter the amount charged ie £39.00 and the date ie 21/04/05 it will then calculate the total amount of interest claimable on each charge and gives you a total at the end

Hope this helps
