Evening all,

My neighbour managed to get a parking ticket today.

Basically, he parked on double yellows, set his clock correctly but put his badge on photo side up instead of the details side and came back to this.

What do you good people think his chances are of appealing?

Thanks in advance.

I think if he asks them nicely, and he hasn't made a habit of getting tickets, then there is a good chance they will write off the ticket. Send a copy of the front side of the badge so that they can see that it was a valid badge.

In 2004 they let me off a ticket after my clock got blown over my badge and I told him to write a nice letter ( something he is not familiar with) and plead to their sensitive (?) side.

Thanks for your input considering it's a weekend.

Were there any kerb stripes too? If so, badge up the right or wrong way and he'll get a ticket.

Otherwise, as advised appeal to their better nature. It has been done many times by blue badge holders who make a genuine mistake.

Thanks

I did give him the third degree and he said there were no kerb markings so it was standard double yellows.

I have been searching for the PCN codes and if there are certain codes specifically for disabled badges and there are a couple but they only deal with "disc parking places" as opposed to designated disabled bays. I haven't a clue what disc parking places are.

Personally, I don't think it should make any difference.

Does turning a badge upside-down render it invisible?

Or are we talking about being placed reverse-side up?

EDIT.... Just noticed.....

but put his badge on photo side up instead

Should have read the initial post more carefully.

A nice letter should see the end of this..

If you knew my neighbour, you would laugh at that statement :D

He has never done nice.

I have a suspicion I will be doing it for him.

I went onto another website and saw various other PCN's and every one had a different code to this one. Seems like councils don't quite know what they are doing.

Anyhoo, nice letter to write tomorrow.

Night all.

If he won't do nice, then do it for him! He'll lose the appeal otherwise.

The contravention code is correct in this case. The other cases might have has subtle differences, but this one is correct.

Take a photocopy of BOTH sides of the blue badge - so they can see that it's the same one as was on display in the car - and a courteous letter explaining the error (which was the driver's mistake, not the council's, whatever he may think of that fact!), and there is a good chance it will be cancelled.

If not, come back here for advice.

Apologies for my ignorance, but what are kerb stripes?

Thankyou everybody for your replies. I will draft a letter up for the old fool :) and send it off (with copies of badge)

I will let you know how it goes.
