Hi all,

I have just checked my credit report and I have had a default applied to each of my 2 personal loans (Northern Rock and Mint).

What happened is that I was made redundant in March 2009 and I was unable to make my usual monthly payments to them from April onwards. I kept in constant contact with them to update them of my status and they were really understanding. I was permitted to make lower repayments to them. In August, I gained employment again and I informed them immediately that I would be making my usual payments and extra payments to clear my arrears.

Northern Rock did send me a notice a few months ago that I was to pay in full, that the outstanding amount had now become due, but when I contacted them, they said it was okay to keep making the payments.

I am shocked that these defaults have been applied, when I have been appraising them of my situation and making payments. I have been making my normal repayments for 2 months already! I have spoken to Northern Rock and I was told to write to their complaints department to ask them to remove it. I have not spoken to Mint yet.

Does anyone have any advice as to how I should approach this, when I put it in writing and to let me know what my chances of having them removed are? I would be very grateful!

Thanks in advance of your help.

Write to their complaints department and seek an explanation-refer to any previous comms and if you have it send a copy.

Ask them to forward you a copy of their complaints procedure.

Keep copies of everything and send with proof of posting.Do not deal by email or phone.

You have the rights to add a notice of correction to your credit file, and also to ask the CRA to look into any entry you feel are inaccurate.

I will move your thread to the CRA forums.
