My local dealer is trying to say my friend's '01 Audi TT needs a new timing belt at 36000 miles, when the service schedule clearly states it should not need one until around 115000 miles.

What is particularly annoying to my colleague is the fact that he has only done 7000 miles in the car since he bougbt it from this very dealer !

So,not only are they trying to charge him £500 for a belt that shouldn't need replacing, but they are evidently trying to say the 'wear' only became excessive in the 7000 miles he has done !

I think he should tell them where to stick their bill, both on the grounds that the part should not need replacing so soon, and that it (if it is worn) must have been noticeable worn when they sold the car to him !
