City bankers are already requesting transfers away from London to the U.S or Europe to avoid Alistair Darling's 50 per cent supertax on bonuses, it emerged today.

The Chancellor announced in his Pre-Budget Report yesterday that banks must pay a 50 per cent levy on any discretionary bonuses worth more than £25,000 this year.

But senior figures in the City have claimed that Darling's populist attempt to hammer the banks will backfire and will simply mean that bankers will look to work elsewhere, weakening London's position as a global financial power.

Some are even predicting that up to 40 per cent of London's banking workforce could move abroad to avoid paying the tax.

It saddens me to think of those poor retched unfortunates driven from their London desks to far flung regions such as Dubai and Hong Kong.

Farewell to the sloth men in tailored suits.

Excellent.

Let us show them to the White Cliffs of Dover (the tallest one) and wave them off (over the edge).

Cheers,
