Lappy is poorly! :(

This started on Thursday with things just generally running

slow and was just really a bit of an annoyance, and now it

just won't boot completely..

Starts boot-up great but gets to the Windows wallpaper

screen and just stops, just before the point of putting the

icons on screen, or if I'm lucky enough to get the icons on

screen it runs OK for about a minute and then goes completely

unresponsive..

I don't really want to take it to the shop, though money isn't

an issue, I know that he won't want to spend any time looking

for the problem and will just want £40 to re-set it.

Thoughts anyone please.... ?

Thanks Spam, I really need it looking at today..

I've just phoned the shop, and surprise, she said

it sounded like it needed re-setting!!!

Gonna just have to live with that as I really do

need it seeing to and getting working..

Ta again! :-)

Mine had a phase of doing that and it drove me mad!

It once worked long enough for me to get free trial of Tune Up utilities on though and has been OK since... no idea what was wrong with it in the first place though. Don't really know what I'm doing!

I'll see what people tell you in case it happens to me again.

Have you tried switching it off and on again...?!

You got a USB pen to backup your files? (for the time that you do get your icons?)

Also do you have a windows CD/ DVD?

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Tried that Barra...

Don't need to back up thanks L. Photo's from Newfoundland

are on it, but they're already backed up to a USB stick and

on a DVD.

It's in shop now, at worst I'll have to put bookmarked pages

back onto Firefox..

dave for future reference mate.. theres a program called, backrex.

If you download and install that, (if) you ever need to trfr files again, this prog, will trfr all your my docs folders, emails, icons, favs etc, to a single file. (which you can save anywhere), do what ever you need to do), then by simply running the backrex prog again, will put everything back to the same place it was before. The only thing it wont do, is trfr progs over.

I use it all the time on pc's which come into the workshop. Customers are always asking me if I can back their files up, as for some reason, they either a), dont know how to, b), cant be bothered backing up, or c), dont realise that they have to back up, then get upset, because they have lost everything, and want such and such back again..

hope this helps

be safe

nige :)
