My OH was made redundant in April this year.

He had an insurance cover on his Nationwide Visa card. It has taken 6 months for the Company to send out the claim forms.

The OH is on ESA and Housing Benefit

Since the credit card bill had not been paid Nationwide have put a stop on his Nationwide Bank account, which is fair enough but they have stopped him taking out both Housing Benefit and his ESA payments.

He cannot pay his rent nor for anything else.

I came here last week and found the posts on Right of Appropriation. OH phoned the Nationwide and told them, also sending a letter by Recorded Delivery. The letter has been signed for.

Today Nationwide deny all knowledge of having had the letter.

OH's landlord is demanding money.

He is off work with major depression and really doesn't need all this on top of everything else.

What on earth does he do now please?

Sorry, should have said.

contact the council and get the housing benefit paid direct to your landlord. Ask if they can have a chat to Nationwide, it might help.

Get a basic bank account elsewhere and transfer all payments to there.

If council is not willing to pay direct to landlord, ask them to pay by giro until the new bank account is up and running.

Hope this helps.
