Dear all,

I would like some advice on the following, it is actually for my wife... details are below.

At the beginning of Nov she received a letter from 1st Cred in relation to an old mobile phone contract which they claim she still owes money on.

The claim they have been writing to our old address and also made a ludicrous claim that she has also made payments. I know for a fact that she has not had a mobile phone with the company who 1st cred purchased the alleged debt from for at least 5.5 years as i bought a new phone with contract with o2 which she still has..

How do we query this debt and to who? are there any links for letters on Cag?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong forum

You could send them this 'we know nothing of this debt' and get them to prove it

http://www.consumerforums.com/resources/templates-library/86-debt-collectors/573-general-debt-letter-if-you-know-nothing-of-the-debt

But if it's 5.5 years old and you've payed nothing or acknowledged that you owe the money for the 5.5yrs you might want to sit it out fo a few more months until the 6 yr stat barred rules comes into force re your debt and you can kiss their sorry bottys into touch.

This 'attempted payment' or that you've 'made payment' is usually from that ofa desperate dca knowing that they're either out of time or do not have enough time to collect the debt.

Send 1st Crud this;http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/resources/templates-library/86-debt-collectors/573-general-debt-letter-if-you-know-nothing-of-the-debt

Send it via recorded delivery so they cannot say they didn't receive it. Also don't entertain them over the phone, EVER.

Keep all contact with them in writing only, and print your name don't sign.

It's that time of year when they are dusting down the files and attempting to extort every possible person in the country. As it is nearly SB, that is if the debt really does exist, then they will hound you for the next 6 months.

Isn't a 3G phone by any chance?

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!
