Hi,

Some body rang my neighbour asking if I lived next door, has anyone ever heard of this

I'm sure that there have been similar instances on cag, but what a flippin cheek! It is not permitted under the OFT debt collection guidelines.

he said he was from the scottich post office and was trying to deliver a parcel to me!!!!

Porkie pies.

I would check that your (or your neighbours) name is not listed on the 192(dot) com website.

Not many people realise about ticking the X box:

The Electoral Registration Officer makes and keeps two versions of the

electoral register - the full register and the edited register. Please put an X in

the appropriate box if you wish for your name and address to be excluded

from the edited register. The full register lists everyone who is entitled to vote.

You can check it by calling at the council offices or at some local libraries.

Only certain people and organisations can have copies of the full register, and

they can only use it for specified purposes. These include electoral purposes,

the prevention and detection of crime and checking your identity when you

have applied for credit. The law says who can have a copy of the full register

and what they can use it for. The full list of such persons and purposes is

given in the Representation of the People (England and Wales) (Amendment)

Regulations 2002. It is a criminal offence for them to pass it on to anyone else

or to use it for any other purpose. The edited register leaves out the names

and addresses of people who have asked for their names to be excluded from

that version of the register. The edited register can be bought by anyone who

asks for a copy and they may use it for any purpose.

In accordance with the Representation of the People Acts, any application to

be registered as an elector is subject to public inspection to allow for objection

to the application to be made. At the end of this period of public inspection (if

no objection has been received) the applicant may be added to the Register of

Electors on the 1st day of the month. Applications must be determined by the

Electoral Registration Officer by 14 days before the end of the month

(exclusive of a 5 day period for receipt of objections) in order for the applicant

to be added to the Register of Electors on the 1st day of the next month.

Those applications determined after 14 days before the end of the month will

be delayed for inclusion in the Register of Electors until the 1st day of the

following month. Please note that in the "run-up" to an Election you will only

be able to vote at that Election if your name has been added to the Register of

Electors before the last day for delivery of Nomination Papers for the Election.

It shows me up on there, but as a premium service, it also show my 2 sons as being at the address, which they haven't been for over 6 years, so is no wonder the wrong people receive demands for payment if DCA's are going off information on this site, it is years out of date

There's a way to correct it:

"If you wish to be removed from 192.com's copies of the Electoral Roll, please download the C01 form and mail it to the address below or fax it to 0207 909 2169. "

The Scottish Bureau of Investigation is a DCA;

Outrageous, how these low-life can be allowed to use such misleading names!

Whatever you do, don't bin it. Keep it as proof to send the relevant authorities. They are not allowed to do this.

To be fair in some cases they are relative to a person's duties (Claims Investigator etc) however in the case of DCA's I would think that they should be forbidden to use either company names or job titles that imply legal authority.

Please note, Trading name:

Scottish Bureau of Investigation...

A somewhat misleading trading name for the:

Lewis Group.

Disgraceful, and most frightening for many Scottish Consumers.

Most, would consider a communication from the 'Scottish Bureau of Investigation' eminated from a Government Department/ Body...!

How much longer will the OFT allow this abuse to continue?
