If you've never heard of TiVO, this won't be of interest. It was the first viable PVR (Personal Video Recorder) that heralded the end of the VHS cassette. Launched over 6 years ago (and a year before Sky's '+' box), it was a technology agnostic device that would work equally well with off-air signals (analogue),, Satellite OR cable.

It required a phone connection to get the latest EPG data, but for most it was TiVO's 'suggestions' that would let it record something IT thought you might like to view, based on your viewing profile.

Sky dropped it to launch '+' and its subsequent variants, and TiVO in the UK stagnated as the only machine available was the Series 1 model made by Thompson. In the USA however, updated machines arrived offering web access and a whole host of goodies that were denied a UK audience.

Until now! :)
