Hello all

I parked on my usual resident CPZ street (Cornwall Road SE1) late at night in a suspended parking bay but didn't know it was suspended as the sign was over 40 metres away on a lamp post in the opposite direction to which I was going (and coming from). The sign was also partially obscured by a high vehicle (4x4).

There are at least 2 sign/lamp posts in well lit areas where the sign could have gone - very near to the suspended bays themsleves, but the council (good old Lambeth) say it is my responsibility to make sure I am in a permissable parking place. Usually Cornwall Road is a permissable place to park for residents and the CPZ times are displayed right by where my car was. Hence I thought I'd be forgiven for not randomly walking towards a suspension sign that I could not see, in the wrong direction, to check if it was OK to park where I usually park.

Incidentally, Thames Water, for whom the bays were suspended, didn't so any work to that space - doesn't that render the sign invalid under section 49 (4B) of the Traffic Management Act 2004?

I'd appreciate any advice on the matter as I have now been issued the scary Notice To Owner...:(

Thanks
