Letter requesting return of deposit - to landlord or agent?

Hi

 

I have an AST which ended more than 2 months ago. The final inspection was signed off, everything okay, full deposit was to be returned. However, 2+ months down the track we havent received it.

 

I paid the security deposit to our agent who told me they had passed it to the landlord. The security deposit was protected by an insurance scheme. The Protection certificate lists the landlord's details under "landlord/agent". Now on contacting the agent, they say they have received it back from the landlord and will pay it on to us. However we have received nothing despite many many requests and there is never anyone in their office to speak to about it.

 

I want to write a letter requesting a refund w/i 10 days so that I can then pursue it if there is still no response. Do I direct this letter to the landlord or the agent or both? Also ... is there any format that I should follow for this letter of request ? Thanks so much.

Write to the landlord, reminding them of their duty to return the despot give a reasonable period say 14 Days.

You might include a comment such as issuing a county court summons.

Also contact the sceme the Deposit was with and tell them, they should then inform LL to return depsosit,a nd if they do not then they have to, thats the law. thenthey have to get money from LL. so contact them thats what the sheme is for.

Hi thanks for your replies. I contacted the deposit scheme and they told me to write to both and if no reply in 10 days then they would act. I'm guessing that's ten days from receipt by the landlord/agent of the letters.
