I was driving a perfect speed, i was just unlucky to get caught. .

If you are seriously suggesting today that 56mph in a residential area is a "perfect" speed, it proves that even with the threat of losing your licence, your driving has not improved, and you can see no wrong in your actions. But, with that attitude it will only be a matter of time before you learn your lesson the hard way. Sooner rather than later hopefully. I assume you have no objections to other motorists driving past your own front door at nearly double the speed limit?

And I bet he doesn't make a donation either.

When people come on here, sometimes their choice of words gets peoples backs up but we all try to help whatever the circumstances. It was only at the end, his true nature came out and I bet he won't even check this thread out again to get a feel of peoples opinion.

I still say help and hope the "offender" realises their error and tries to make a change

see i got rather mixed responses here, sorry for any undue offence, i did say above i was grateful, if you don't think the speed was appropriate i'm sorry but you shouldn't be so judgmental, it's not speed that kills it's bad driving and you knew nothing of the road conditions on the day, i'm a very safe driver never had an accident.

If the speed was above the limit, then it wasn't appropriate.

If the speed was above the limit, then it wasn't appropriate

Actually if you bother checking the statistics you'll find that the vast majority of accidents occur within the speed limit.

Speed is only the major factor in a very small percentage of accidents.

Inappropriate speed as the OP rightly pointed out is far more dangerous than whether you exceed an arbitary limit.

Let's try and put some perspective on this.

In the past 5 years, during a large part of which I was working for a car delivery firm driving 80,000 miles a year, I received 3 NIPs for alleged speeding.

On each occasion, I elected to challenge these through the courts, one was dropped by the CPS pre-trial, and on both other occasions they failed to produce the evidence and/or witness, so the cases were dismissed.

I also helped some colleagues who received NIPs, fighting court cases on their behalf on 21 occasions, 18 of which resulted in wins for us, with substantial costs being awarded to defendants in some cases.

Just as drivers are supposed to observe speed limits, the authorities have laws and codes of practice which they must follow in order to obtain a successful conviction. In many cases, they fail to do so, as with the OP here, so it's absolutely correct that he should get off.

And before the moral holier-than-thou brigade get on their high horses, no I haven't got any points on my licence.

That may be true but you didn't get 9 points for parking offences did you?

I'm struggling not to be judgemental as I like to drive quickly but never in a 40mph or lower limit, it's just not worth the risk, but I am uncomfortable with your stance here.

As a long time friend (who happens to be a senior Police Traffic Officer) told me, "don't worry about fools that drive badly around you not being caught doing so. Sooner or later they'll do it in front of a camera or Police Car and they will be caught"

I just hope you've learned something from this episode.

david, I'm one of those who thought the sentiment was wrong, a kind of "thanks guys you've saved my neck here now I can carry on as before". I don't know if that's what the OP was saying but clearly some of us thought there was at least a hint of that in his tone.

I totally agree that the authorities must follow their own rules if they are to succeed and deserve to lose their cases if they don't.

Where I and others get slightly annoyed is when the beneficiary of good advice and in this case pure good fortune, displays arrogance about what the event that created the initial question.

It would perhaps have been better to at least pretend that he had learned his lesson and was thankful for his good luck and our advice.

If he was up to nine pioints then sadly I would guess that this will not sink in either

I would imagine with GPS navigation systems now appearing in cars it is only a matter of time before speeding cars are picked up and fines and points become issued automatically via satillite. Probably have to an implant as well to drive so they can tell who is the driver as well ;)

Ha Ha Lula, that's a good one!

I may be going out on limb here, but I'm guessing you're not his greatest fan?

It may sound selfish but I'm glad I don't live anywhere near him if he can't see anything wrong with his driving habits!

I am not a fan of anyone that thinks that they are above the law and, to quote my 6 year old "Can do what I want" He will get his comuppance at some point, I hope that not too many people get hurt when he does.

Well said!

If they continue to drive whilst banned - lock them up. That should stop them driving.

Let's hear it for the legal, safe and sensible drivers out there - reclaim the roads!

I don't think this is the place to start abusing those asking for help if you don't think they deserve help don't give it. I think many people on here park like tw*ts and deserve everything they get but I just use my personal judgement and just stick to the facts, state the law and keep it at that. If I think they have been ticketed unfairly I will help, if I think they deserved it I just sit back and hope they don't get off. Most people know they should not use mobiles, speed, park on zig zags etc a lecture or abuse from anyone on here will not change their driving just alienate those that genuinely need help.
