Inspired by Pompeyfaiths...

now were is that dog forum ?

I thought I'd start a thread where we can discuss our pets and their adventures/misadventures and general personalties.

Cats are my choice of pet and I have two, Penny and Vienna. They're a couple of old girls now at 14 years a piece but they still like to catch mice and the odd pigeon..

Vienna came very close to death when she was a kitten due to severe flea infestation from her mother and at the time there was nothing we could get from the vets that we could treat her with so it was a case of combing her three times a day with the flea comb and dropping the live ones that we could catch into boiling water....good sport watching them burst..

Vi became very anemic and incredibly weak and we were told by the vet that we may lose her but we persevered with the combing, and by feeding her chicken soup through a syringe she managed to get enough strength to survive the ordeal.... we think she may have received some sort of brain damage from her brush with death as ever since she's always been a bit 'blonde' and not what you'd call 'street wise'..

Luv 'em to bits..:D

We got 4 cats - Taegan, Lestat, Freddie and Barf and our border Collie - Cordie.

The cats are 'strange' I could fill a whole forum thread with the adventures of the 2 young ones, like the time when they went up the chimney of our old house, and how they both fell into our neighbours fish pond!!, Lestat is 'gender disorientated' and Taegan growls and grumps at anyone who looks at her!

Just got Cordie back from the vet yesterday and she hasnt got the dreaded cancer we thought she had :D, but has been diagnosed with diabetes!!! she is back on Thursday to start the treatment and we are being shown how to do the injections!

Anyone out there had any pets with diabetes and how did you cope with it?

I love cats myself and would love to keep one, but I can't sadly.

Last year my OH was walking home from work and found a tiny kitten. To this day we can't figure out how it ended up where he found it, on a road with the back of a large factory on one side and a large wall on the other. It was so tiny it couldn't walk, we worked out it was only about 10 days-two weeks old.

We rang the RSPCA who were most unhelpful, snottily telling me the OH should have left it where it was as the mother would have been 'somewhere' and we 'shouldn't have interferred'

Anyway after ringing the vets we got some powdered catmilk and bottlefed 'Lucky'. I kept him till he weaned and he went to a relative of OH where he has the life of riley, definately rules the roost :)

He loves humans and I like to think it's all the cuddling he got, I'm sure he thought I was his mother!

FAB website (Feline Advisory Bureau) is good for cat info. I used it when one of mine had FLUTD (blocked cat syndrome), but I haven't had one with diabetes yet.

I've got 5 cats. Felix is 14, Ben, Lily & Tilly are all 6 and the new rescue baby, Daisy, is 5 months.

Daisy is tiny and will never be a big cat, she is a tortoishell and lives up to the reputation! Ben is a Norwegian Forest Cat and weighs around 2 stone - Daisy gets really angry and loses her temper because she can't beat him in a playfight. She doesn't seem to know how small she is! Ben has been fantastic with her - really patient and gentle, even when she wakes him up by biting his neck when he's asleep in front of the fire!

This was my lovely Domino who was 15 when I lost him 9 months ago. He was an absolute joy and a real character. The neighbour's dog was terrified of him :D

I miss him terribly :(

Domino is beautiful. I still miss mine who died over 6 years ago even though I have 5 now!

Yep, wise dogs stay away from cats! My brother's rottweiler wouldn't go near cats as my first tortoishell she cat "taught him who was boss" when he was still a pup.

Oh spammy Thank You

But on a serious note i really do think our pets should be recognised on these forums because as i said before they are a great stress reliever.

Many a time while going though my court case with MBNA my border collie knew i was feeling down and just seeing here cute face cheered me up again.

Id recommended a dog to anyone within reason.

Now I know many of us have dogs and such so im sure this thread will do well because i dont know about you but i love talking about and praising my dog.

Now off I go to change my avatar.

Aw, that brought a tear to my eye.. :( I lost Vienna no1 in a road accident when she was 11 years old... I'd had her from 6 weeks old and she was my 'baby' before my real babies... I was heartbroken when I'd heard what had happened to her from a neighbour.. one minute she was there and the next..... very sad..

But as they say the best thing to do is get another pet and we did... Double trouble... :D

I love dogs too, had a golden retriever for 14 years, she was a wonderful friend (completely scatty of course). When she died I couldn't bear to replace her with another dog, so got the puddy tat instead.

I was cleaning out the cupboard under the stairs last week, and came across 6 small wooden boxes, all with wee metal plaques with our long lost pets names on them, brought the wonderfull memories flouding back.

Forgot my wife did that.

We're down to three cats and three dogs, now.

The oldest cat, Tilly, is about sixteen years old..... thinks she's still a kitten! The fussiest cat that I've ever had. Stroke her and she flops down and rolls on her back for you to rub her belly.

The dogs comprise Tessa, a something crossed with damnation, my Son's Staffy (Big Charlie), and a Yorkie (Little Charlie).

We nearly lost the Yorkie when he mixed it up with the Staffy. Three times I separated them and STILL the Yorkie went back for more.

Feisty little sod!

The Staffy punctured a vein in the Yorkie's neck..... kitchen looked like an abattoir. He'd lost so much blood, by the time we got him to the vet's, they had to put two lines in to get some fluids into him. You wouldn't believe it to see him now!

This is Little Charlie......

time i got a goldfish me thinks

My youngest daughter brought a goldfish home last year... calls it 'Barbara' She thinks she's a great companion... often hear her chatting to her and she says it's very relaxing watching her swim around.... the only problem is Barbara sometimes makes a bit of a racket of a night when shifting the gravel looking for food ..... bit like a cat in a litter tray apparently...:)

Ive also had pet Rats over the years as well, they were great fun. I had 2 pink eyed girls called Fidget and Sway who absolutely hated my OH, and used to charge him when they saw him, yet he never hurt them or did anything untoward.

Ive also had 4 other cats, Maxxie was put to sleep when she was 17 with a tumour, Scruffy was a big black sleek tomcat who also had cancer, and I lost Boris and Taari to accidents:( with cars

Still miss them all, and have picture of them all over the house!

I recently had my parents border collie cross for a week whilst they went on holiday. She's happy staying with me because I was with them when they brought her home from resue centre. She has a lovely nature and was great with the cats and they were OK with her as I introduced them gradually.

She did have to sleep on the bedroom floor though as she wouldn't let me out of her sight - and she wasn't lying on carpet either, she stared and whined at me until I got the message and went and got her the duvet off the spare bed!

I have a insane border collie, barks when people come and go, she is a total pest but she does not need to go to training classes cause she has my husband and I trained to perfection.

I have a battered cat with bits missing that I got from RSPCA last year who is the apple of my eye, I know I should have gone to specsavers, and a strange cat who is beautiful that I got from someone at work. She refuses to join in with the rest of the family and lives upstairs like some pampered queen. She is sat behind me now waiting to be adored.
