what happens if your having an on-going dispute appeal for a pcn, however not deliberately, but you sell your car. are private companys still going to chase you and are they at a more advantageous side or am I?

You shouldn't be having an "on-going dispute with a PPC". What you should have is a situation where you receive occasional junk mail through the door from a PPC or their "associates" which you duly file in a dark drawer and do nothing else with. I hardly think I would describe that as a "dispute" and wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

will i get taken to court if i dont have the car?

That depends on what they decide to do. They could decide to take you to court. It's not impossible, in the sense that it doesn't violate the laws of physics, but it's so unlikely it's not worth worrying about. Even so, how would they win? What would their case be? "We asked him for some money and he hasn't given it to us."

Look at it from the other side: Why don't you take them to court for not giving you money? The answer - you'd be wasting your time.

So they "could" take you to court... and you "could" take them to court... and they "could" make an admin error and send you a cheque for 10 million quid.

*if* you were taken to court and for some reason, hell froze over and you lost you would a county court judgement for a certain amout of debt. How that debt is recovered is up to the claimant - they can send bailiffs in to seize goods, although unless you had a car of very low value, they'd be unlikely to take it. You'd probably only owe £250 so they'd be looking to take televisions, XBoxes etc. rather than mess about with a car.

This is all highly theoretical though and you'd have to be seriously unlucky and with a weak defence to get to this stage. Even then, it's notoriously difficult to get money out of anyone in small claims court, even with bailiffs involved.
