I received a parking ticket from Parkforce - The UK Parking Enforcement Agancy for parking in Tunbridge Wells a little under 2 weeks ago. I was trying to get into the legitimate car park, but it was blocked by a lorry and the guy at the kiosk said "dont worry love, park on the road here and I will tell the warden that you could not park in my car park and had to park on the street - you wont get a fine" so, of course I parked and vowed to be no more than an hour. I was 35 minutes, and had received the parking ticket 4 minutes after i had left the vehicle!! There was no one around to ask about this when I had returned to the car, so I drove off. The permit, was literally shoved under my wiperblade, not stuck to the window. They are now asking for £60 if i do not pay by tomorrow, then it will go to £85. If I then do not pay, it will go to £135 and will go to a civil enforcement agency.

I have read lots over various forums to say that Parkforce should not be paid, and that people were just ignoring it, but thats it, no one ever posts any outcomes... So what should I do...? Shall I pay now, to avoid inevitable charges later, or ignore and ride it out...? Can anyone give me any advice...? Has anyone out there, had the bayliffs round, or does it just get ignored...? If Martin Lewis is to be beleived, I should not pay and then I will get no more than 5-6 scary leters, then it will all just disappear.... I wanted to see if anyone has taken this route and won....

Many many thanks in advance,

A very stressed out ConfusionGirl...

When the letters dry up, it's some weeks since it all started, so nobody bothers logging back on, finding their thread and then posting the exciting news they have had no more letters.

Ignore everything - we know Parkfarce well.

You're not getting your head around the [problem]. The 'increases' are arbitrary - they are random figures plucked out of the air in an attempt to get you to pay up because you fear they will spiral out of control.

I'm guessing a 'civil enforcement agency' is a hilarious name for a powerless debt collection company. So look forward to some fancy new letters from them before they give up.

This is a mail [problem].

So having researched on lots of forums, with lots of posts from different people all saying the same thing (including Martin Lewis), I can't imagine you'll beleive me either :D

You seem to want 100% guarantee, which is impossible. At some point you are going to have to use your own judgement

No... Of course not... All I am saying is that every post I have read that directly relates to Parkforce (only about 6 od so) says that people have been advised to ignore the notices, letters etc... No one ever says that they got away with it! What I was asking, was if I am going to end up paying anyway, shall i just save myself the stress of actual real life bayliffs at my door...????? There are no outcomes, only people saying that they received a notice, and that they think they will ignore it... To be honest, given the comments of Al27, I am probably just going to ride it out, and then whatever the outcome I will post feedback... I'm useful like that.

PS: I did not actually speak with Martin Lewis regarding my specific parking ticket, we only discussed private tickets in general. :D

Thank you Mr Browne for taking time out of your day to give such an informative comment.

Here are 310 parkforce threads/posts from just CAG alone:

site:consumeractiongroup.co.uk Parkforce - Google Search

I haven't read them all, but I very much doubt there is one that mentions being taken to court or bailiffs visiting.

Thank you for this... do appreciate it... I can have a goood old read of it all now, cant think of a better way to spend company time!

Really, Thank you...

and just to further un-confuse you.

it's a civil matter parking in a private carpark, it's not criminal, so bailiffs will never be involved.

I have had two Penalty/Parking Charge Notices from Parkforce, both nearly two years ago and neither amounted to anything.

Firstly don't contact them at all, they will get your details from the DVLA and they will send you a letter advising you as the registered keeper that you are responsible which is nonesense.

I replied in my own words after reading the template letters above stating they needed to contact the driver not the registered keeper, if you decide to reply never give them your phone number or email address and never telephone them, keep all correspondance to letters, its more expensive and time consuming for them and they soon get fed up.

A few weeks after you reply you will receive another letter advising you the charge has increased and you must pay or they will involve a debt recovery agent.

I replied again stating the same as my original reply and even enclosed a copy of my original reply.

After my second reply to them, they then for some unknown reason sent me a letter saying my appeal had been rejected and i owed them the original amount which was £80, i wrote again because i was enjoying it by this time advising them that they were getting confused as i hadn't appealed against anything.

A few weeks later came the debt recovery agent letter, again using my own version of the template letters i wrote advising them that the alleged fine was in dispute and not to contact me again or i would treat it as harrassment, they replied stating they had handed the case back to Parkforce and that was the last i heard from them.

Then Parkforce tried again with another couple of letters a few months apart which i completely ignored and that seems to be the end of it.

I havn't heard anything for a year, if you want a bit of fun write to them like i did, i enjoyed compiling my own versions of the template letters and getting their threatening replies knowing they were talking nonesense and once i got fed up of replying i just stopped.

If you don't want to get involved writing to them just send them the one letter telling them to contact the driver and leave it at that.

Just remember, no telephone calls or they will harrass you.

writing letters back to these clowns should only be done by people confident enough to deal with them.

They advice of no contact still stands.

Thank you so much Joe5... That makes me feel much better about it all... I will ignore and maybe write a letter if it gets a bit much...

Thanks again, really appreciate it...

If you do decide to write to the PPC, expect even more threatening letters as they will believe you are wavering. As I said letters should only be sent by people confident enough to deal with the extra letters the ppc send in return.

There is really no stress when you understand the process, the whole idea is to send you scary letters to try and frighten you into paying.

Even more people would ignore them if they just sent a. 'please, pretty please pay us' letter.

Hi Guys.... Me again.... I am trying to 'Stay Strong!!' This has now been going on for a little while and I thought I had got away with it! However this morning I have had a letter from Debt Recovery Plus Ltd. They have quoted all of the usual 'legal recovery may commence' etc, but I just wanted to get your thoughts... Shall I write to them and state that I was not the driver and blatently lie?

or Shall I just continue to ignore?

I am presuming this is usual for them, but it just all get me a bit shakey...

To be honest, I am broke, so they will have to take me to court if they want their money that bad!!

Thanks again for all of your advice, just looking for a little reassurance now...

Never ever lie. Lies have a habit of coming back and biting you.;)

If you continue to ignore them, eventually they will give up. Please trust all the advice you have been getting.

I could be wrong, but by calling this private company "The UK Parking Enforcement Agency" it may lead some people into believing that this is a government department/quango, just like the "Food Standards Agency" ?

Either do nothing as most people on here suggest or write to the debt recovery company stating the debt is in dispute with Parkforce, there is a template somewhere on here for that letter.

I actually wrote disputing the debt and that was the last letter i got from the debt recovery agent other than one stating they had handed the debt back to parkforce, Parkforce then tried another couple of times which i just ignored as i was fed up by then and that was it, but just remember only a court can order you to pay money and nobody in this country to my knowlege has ever been taken to court for non payment of a private parking charge.

Well that's the purpose, yes! Doesn't break any laws though as far as I know.
