Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

I changed my surname by deedpole 7 years ago now. I've been trying to tidy up my credit report and order a copy every few months.

I ordered a copy of my credit report, everything as expected. 11 pages, no problems.

3 months later I order another copy of my credit report, this time it comes in at 22 pages. 7 pages of those are aliases. I don't understand how in 3 months, when no applications for credit have been made (what's the point with 5 defaults I couldn't get a bag of sweets on credit) a few aliases have increased to 7 pages worth.

I've emailed experian and they say its a result of ordering my credit report and applying for credit but not to worry it won't effect my credit rating. I dispute this, I haven't applied for any credit and I don't see how requesting a credit report 3 months between each other will increase my credit report from 11 to 22 pages.

Has anyone experienced something similar, does it matter? Just seems really odd and experian are completely dismissive of my query.

If you are saying that your one application has increased your file from 11 pages to 22 without your applying for anything, then you have every right to question it.

Read the supporting notes they sent you-if you are still not happy speak to them again.

Head, bang, wall with these morons. I've received a second email back from them not answering my questions. The information will remain on my file indefinitely, it won't interfere with my ability to gain credit (nope but the 5 defaults will) and the information is either provided from my creditors and applications of credit. ****SIGH****

I'm going to write a complaint to them with copies of both reports, maybe using big letters and small words so they don't get confused.

I don't think me telling them I haven't applied for any credit (why when I know I'll get refused unless it's a 20000%apr) and why would my very few creditors record/report aliases over 11 pages in 3 months.

Something isn't right but hey just call me septic peg....
