bought car on finance in april,broke down 2wks later,got it back last week and it's still not right

Hi all,apologies in advance for the long winded post,

I,m in need of some advice, we bought an audi a4 1.9 tdi 54 reg on finance in april, after 2 weeks it started making a loud tapping noise so we duly took it back to the garage. Over the next couple of weeks we were told many different things as to what was wrong in other words no one seemed to have a clue,we were supplied with a courtesy car after a few weeks had passed. Finally after more than 12 weeks we got a call to say come and collect it, it had had 4 new injectors fitted. We get the car home then about an hour later it would'nt start, it was turning over but not catching,as it was late we left it till the next morn when after repeated attempts it did start. We took it back to the garage who said a seal had gone and was letting air in so they replaced it. got the car home again, same thing happened , wouldn't catch, rang garage they said it would start eventually just keep trying which we did and it did.

It then started stalling and taking a good couple of minutes to start up again. We rang the garage again who came and collected it the next day. Apparently a fuel pipe had been put on the wrong way round!

The car was returned 2 days later.This has all happened over the last 2 weeks. The car is still not firing up properly in the mornings, is smoking like mad and stinks of burning fuel.

It is due to go in on Monday to be looked at again.

We have had the car in our possession for approx 4 weeks out 16.

Monday will be the 4th time they have had it back.

we have paid over £1000 in finance payments for a car we have only had in our possession for 4 weeks.

Is there anything we can do?

Although the regulations say you only have a short period to reject, I believe that as this is an ongoing problem that started within 2 weeks of purchase, your period is still within a reasonable time as you haven't had 'use' of the car to enable you to run outside of the reasonable timeframe.

 

As they have had 3 attempts to repair (on the fourth now) you have given them every opportunity to put right the 'not fit for purpose' aspect of the sale.

 

You can bring it up in conversation that you wish to reject the car and see how they respond. If you do that, and wish reject, then come back to us.

 

If/when the rejection is accepted, the finance ends and you will get all the premiums and deposit paid returned.

 

If you are happy that the dealer is not a cowboy, you could ask that they take the car back in exchange for another one. Whatever you decide, you must keep the finance company informed as it is their car.
