DS1 got his phone nicked off him - again - a couple of days and I can 't afford to replace it yet again, so:

 

Does anyone have an old mobile (in working order!) they no longer want to give to a good(ish, lol) home, please?

 

Preferably Virgin or unlocked, but I can get it unlocked in town, so that's not a biggie, and IF it has a built-in mp3 player, all the better, but tbh, I am not bothered, I'm thinking that the least fashionable, the least chance of him getting mugged. The main thing is that he can make and receive calls really, and preferably something that doesn't weigh a ton.

 

I'm happy to send a SAE to cover the P&P, if anyone out here can help, I'd be very grateful indeed.

Bookie, just recently I thought I had problems with my N73 as well as my 2 house phones and posted a frustrated message on FB!

 

Mr Lex promptly offered me his almost new LG viewty which I now have (thanks again Lexy!!). It turns out the problem was the sim, and I have a new one now.

 

My Envirofone stuff turned up today, but it seems right to give it to a Cagger, innit.

 

I'm sure it will be fine now the problem sim is out.

 

PM any address and I'l send it to you....it has all the features I suppose, not that I ever used many.

As an alternative to Thailand's N73, Uncle Tez has recently upgraded to an all singing, all dancing touchscreen phone, so his old one is going spare.

 

I can't recall the model details off the top of my head, will check tonight and post here (it's a Nokia of some description, I believe). What I can tell you from memory is that it is a reasonable phone, with full PC suite, internet, usual amount of USB and charging cables, all the original manuals, is expandable with memory cards, and, IIRC, has mp3 functions. It also supports vast amounts of photos, video, and downloaded games/apps, and obviously has an onboard camera/video recorder (with sound).

 

I use PAYG vodafone, although I believe the handset is unlocked and able to accept any network.

Checked details as promised. Tez's old telecommunication device would appear to be one of these: K610i.

 

It is complete with all leads, manuals, discs, etc.. I believe it is unlocked (it certainly supports Vodafone PAYG as that was what I used it for).

I have an ex Virgin contract LG Shine.... slight damage to screen so texting can be a little dicey when you reach the bottom and can't check what you're sending but otherwise ok. MP3 and Camera...

 

Spoilt for choice now eh...

i have plenty of old mobiles but they are a bit chewed.

 

They have become play items for the kids pass if they work and pass if i still have the batteries but they will ALL be voda.

 

I will try and find one if anybody wants me to.

I think we're good for now folks, thanks again. Thailand sent the N73 the same day, received the next and Virgin SIM up and running no sweat in it, so thanks again. Son has been given dire warnings about getting himself mugged again (a tad unfair, I know, I am reasonably sure he doesn't actually do it on purpose, lol). Still, he's off to France on Thursday to stay at my childhood home with my uncle and aunt, and it's the kind of place that makes Cornwall look at the point of technology, so all I have to do is make sure he gets on the right plane and then peace for one week!

My last 2 have ended up in washing machine-a mate lent me an old Nokia and its been so good I still have not give it him back.

Here on boot sale on Sunday they sell them for a fiver.

Downside is that its so big-it wont fit in any pockets.....I bought a holdall to carry it round in.

Its so old even the currency calculations come up in £ s d.

 

But it does the job so cant complain:D

erm... in my opinion my daughter would do well to have a 'brick'... she is on her 8th Oyster this year (I asked London transport if they did them with tracking devices..) and I can't count the amount of times she has 'lost' her phone... all this tiny stuff is a nightmare for Dyspraxics... nice 1980s Vodaphone with 3lb charger would do her fine...

Yes Thats right.

He never answers his phone-he still thinks it costs him to RECEIVE calls.

And when he calls you he lets it ring once-so you have to call him back-he then blames his battery.

There was a rumour that he has a stockpile of Tmobile sim packs which he uses to get the free 25p calls.
