Gas Prices

Hi All,

 

I recently moved house and changed over supplier straight away. Obviously there is a change over period where you are still getting your gas from the previous supplier who, in this case, are Npower.

 

In that period the meter units used was just 37, yet i am being charged over £100 for this. This is, to me, a staggering amount for the gas running 20 minutes a day to heat my water over just 6 weeks.

 

Is there any process I can go through that can get this bill reduced ? They are charging 8.261p per kwh and say that 37 units = 1169 kwh.

 

My new supplier is half that but even at £50 for 6 weeks in the summer ??? its going to be triple if not more that in winter. No way i could afford that sort of cost.

Dunno how they've worked that out because 1 unit = 1 kilowatt hour. You should get back in touch with them & ask them to review the bill.

1 unit on the meter is multiplied by various conversion factors. 37 units of gas = 1169 kilowatt hours. I worked this out from both my old and my new suppliers calculations.

37 units = 422.12869 Kilowatt hours.

 

The formula is;

 

37 x 1.0226400 (volume conversion factor) x 40.1827 (calorific value) ÷ 3.6 (kilowatt hour conversion factor) = 422.12869

The calculation I have on the bill are

 

37

x 100 (as units are in 100 cubic feet)

x 1.02264 (correction factor)

x 0.0283 (converstion factor)

x 39.3 (calorific value)

/ 3.6 (converstion factor)

The formula I used is for cubic meters.

 

It must be an old gas meter to give readings in cubic feet.
