We applied for housing benefit/council tax benefit not long ago, as I am not working due to ill health.

Filled in all the forms and got back stating we werent entitled to anything, but on checking the forms, they have taken into account my 18 yr old son's DLA as my income.

Does anyone know the procedure on working the benefit out, are they allowed to do this?

No, they cant count DLA as income, it has to be disregarded, someones obviously made a mistake! Call them up and let them know, but also send a letter confirming it.

And you really dont want to know how they work it out, its a horrendous process! :D

Thanks Emma, I shall write to them and ask why they have taken my sons benefit as income. Also as a carer for him, it states on the council website that carer's get 25% off the council tax, so where is mine?
