barclays dishwasher leak claim

At the end of June 09 we noticed mushrooms in the basement. A builder explained our dishwasher had been leaking and caused a lot of damp. On 3 July, Barclays sent Asprea who confirmed it to be an insured peril and gave us a schedule of work, took our excess and sent their builder to give us a start date. About two weeks ago a company called Crawfords contacted us and sent their surveyor, who used my camera and email to send photos to Crawfords. Now, 7th August, Crawfords are saying it isn't an insured peril. But we have a letter of confirmation and schedule of work from Asprea saying it is.

did they say why it was not an insured peril?

Hi - thanks for replying. The original survey report said the leak had caused extensive damp and wet rot. Crawfords say this isn't an insured peril

could be they are trying to say the damp etc was a pre existing problem.

 

what does your policy wording say regarding damage caused by escape of water?

 

have you had your excess back from the builder? you only usually pay this when the claim has been agreed by the insurance company and they give the builders the go ahead.

Hi again VUSYS1 - The policy says escape of water is an insured risk and it was Barclays who sent Asprea, the original surveyor, who said the damp was due to the leak and was an insured peril. When we agreed for them to do the work they asked us to pay the excess which we did on 3rd July. Nothing happened then for a couple of weeks and Crawfords rang to say they were sending out a surveyor. We are very confused and anxious
