Hi

I brought a car a couple of weeks ago, which i am happy with. It was sold with service history (which i looked at).

When collecting the car i was told that it had been left at the garage when it was mot'd, just pop in next week and it will be there.

Well i have and three weeks later they are stating they are having trouble finding it but not to worry as a new manual has been ordered.

Pretty gutted as i am sure without the history it would devalue the car.

Advise please, thankyou

you could contact a main dealer for that make of car. Most dealers have access to a central service database and should be able to pull up the records - if it has actually been serviced. They may even be able to provide proof for you to keep but in truth, the seller should arrange this for you.

The only service record stamps I would consider to be of value are those put in the service book by a main dealer. Any other garage stamp need to be backed up with the relevant invoice detailing the work done. After all any back street garage could stamp a book but you have no idea if they have actually carried out the service to the manufacturers spec. or just changed the oil.
