Depends on what you are disputing! Billing error..? 4 months is about right. Their charges....? MUCH longer than that! :)

Seems to be variable based on the policies of the Bank - HBOS/Visa offered 6 months.

The Consumer Credit Act 1974, in Section 75, doesn't say anything about a time limit. These banks like to say things like "Oh its over 120 days, so we cant help"

Ask them on what basis they are saying that and ask them to point it out in the CCA. That'll fox them!

If your complaint is one of breach of contract then you will have 5 or 6 years (depending on whether you are in Scotland or England) to bring a claim. And if you paid with you credit card then the bank is jointly liable.

It wouldn't have to state a time limit - a 'reasonable' time would be expected, giving room for complaints, but not where the culpability of the customer becomes an issue. If they send statements every 30 days, there will be an expectation that these are looked at on a frequent basis. Visa International have stated 120 days on their Merchant Accounts, and I believe it unrealistic to expect customers to fare any better.
