Can anyone clarify how a manager or supervisor would deem someone to be unfit for work through alcohol by more than merely stating they looked pale and knowing the employee had been out the previous night. Surely the behaviour of the employee must give serious cause for concern as opposed to a mere assumption by the manager/supervisor concerned.

I should think that, if the manager/supervisor knew that the person had been out the night before, then they would also assume that there is still alcohol present in the bloodstream and that could affect the work, even if they aren't swaying or falling about. I think once they use the term "alcohol" they're covered, like they believe that alcohol is still in effect.

I know in most places management turn a blind eye to it, especially if it was they after a staff party, but some places aren't like that and will follow the rules to the letter if they believe alcohol is a factor.
