I have had a knee injury causing me to have 5 months off work, which has included surgery.

My manager and team leader have held 2 meetings with me. The first was after being off for 2months. Their lettter said they wanted to meet with me and see if there was anything they could do to help me.

I attended with both of them there. I discussed my injury and prospective surgery. I had attended the occupational health as requested. The OH doctor agreed with the diagnosis and the course of action - being surgery.

During the interview I was critisied for 'letting my colleagues down', and that my sickness levels were unacceptable.I was not asked how I was feeling and was not wished well on leaving the interview. They just said they would be in touch. I was very distressed by their attitude. I had hoped that they had found some work I could be doing that would be suitable office based until my surgery. I did not expect, nor did the letter outline that it was to discuss and be negative towards my ill health.

On return to work I had a 'return to work interview'. Again I found the manager and team leader being negative towards me. They brought up again my amount of sickness leave. They then went on to say they did not like the way I worked my flexi time, which is allowed for all staff. They also said that when I work over my allocated hours that it may be my own fault. The manager said someone had said I like to social chit chat and maybe that was why I accrued flexi time. I felt as though I had been slapped across the face at this statement. I am a qualified professional and act in a professional way at work and do not have the time to social chit chat. They would not give me the name of the person who apparently made the allegation.

I am shocked that a return to work interview has been used for other issues. I feel offended, hurt and disillusioned. I find I cannot sleep well and that I look at my work colleagues wondering if anyone had said this? I am also being irritable with members of my family, which I regret. I also have a review in 3 months, but I am not sure why I have to have this review.

Please can you advise me if I am being neurotic or if this is what should happen when a person is off sick and followed all the requests for attendance at occupational reviews. I work in the lovely NHS! Please can anyone advise?

In answer to your questions you are not being neurotic, you are being subjected to bullying and harassment.

Are you in one of the trade unions, if so have you considered asking for assistance in drafting a grievance.
