    • Well, you've highlighted the problem yourself, whatever you decide will carry some risk.   However, I would think the risk of a default judgement & CCJ is to be avoided at all costs and the least worse thing would be to write them a two-line letter with their reference number and your new address.   As usual, any details you can give us on the forum sticky would be useful for the future

      I was in Sainsbury’s today and did scan and shop.
      I arrived in after a busy day at work and immediately got distracted by the clothes.
       
      I put a few things in my trolley and then did a shop.
      I paid and was about to get into my car when the security guard stopped me and asked me to come back in.
       
      I did and they took me upstairs.
      I was mortified and said I forgot to scan the clothes and a conditioner, 5 items.
      I know its unacceptable but I was distracted and Initially hadn’t really planned to use scan and shop.
       
      No excuse.
      I offered to pay for the goods but the manager said it was too late.
      He looked at the CCTV and because I didn’t try to scan the items he was phoning the police.
       
      The cost of the items was about £40.
      I was crying at this point and told them I was a nurse, just coming from work and I could get struck off.
       
      They rang the police anyway and they came and issued me with a community resolution notice, which goes off my record in a year.
      I feel terrible. I have to declare this to my employer and NMC.
       
      They kept me in a room on my own with 4 staff and have banned me from all stores.
      The police said if I didn’t do the community order I would go to court and they would refer me to the PPS.
       
      I’m so stressed,
      can u appeal this or should I just accept it?

Credit rating ruined by CAP One for £18 fee on closed account.

Hello all, I've just joined today, after discovering this great site when Googling CrapQuest, etc, when caught in this bizarre situation:

 

Had a CapOne card for a few years. Didn't use it much, and when it had a nil balance I told CapQuest I'd better cancel it, as paying £18 fee made it unviable. They wanted to keep me, so waived the fee. Then it appeared again a year later, so when I rang this time they did agree to cancel it. I watched carefully, to see if I received further statements. I didn't, so I was satisfied. I moved house after that.

After being at new address for 18 months or so, received silly CapQuest letters, wanting £83. Tried ringing CapOne - calls from this account would not be accepted! Wrote to CrapQuest, saying, 'prove I owe this money'. Never heard from them again. Then wanted to transfer to new interest free credit cards, better personal loans. Got rejected each time. Eventually invested in CreditExpert. Found CapOne had marked me down as '£83 and gone away'.

Telephoned CapOne. Telephone handler scoured my records in puzzlement. Discovered account not cancelled when it should have been, and £18 fee charged, and quickly numped up to £83. He sent me records he was looking at, and advised me to write to Executive Office, and supplied address.

I've written a letter to them, advising all of the above, and demanded an immediate response, confirming account cleared, credit record put straight, and advised them that I am taking legal advice concerning losses suffered as a result.

 

Sorry for long post, but I thought you'd appreciate hearing just how dangerous this company is, even when you owe nothing! I will be trawling all the info on this site now, with regards to making sure they do put matters right and possibly compensate me. If anyone has had a similar experience, though, I would just love to hear it.
