I recently applied for help with my NHS costs and have recieved a HC3 form, however, the prices I have to pay are very high, taking into consideration my low income.

I am a 29 year old student, and my income is about £6,500 from student loans and bursarys. However, about 3,500 of that goes on accomodation. I spend about 2,500 of that on living expenses, i.e food, clothing, and an old bank loan from when I was working.

I don't really understand the form to be honest, I am dyslexic and it all seems a bit... Offputting if you get me.

The main HC3 form says I pay:

£28.64 towards private sight tests, £57.28 towards glasses, £28.64 towards NHS treatment, a whopping £85.92 towards denistry and wigs.

On a seperate form it seems to break down how they got to tha decision, I will write his down here.

Your assessed weekly needs are: Personal Allowance £60.50

Total weeklu needs (a) £60.50

Your assessed weekly income is:

Student Loan/Grant for maintennance £79.07

Bursary Allowance £10.07

Total weekly oncome (b) : £89.14

Excess weekly income (b) - (a) £28.64

I really do not know how they have come to this conclusion, as it just seems a tad wrong, I assume they think I get £89.14 a week, when in reality, after maintennance and such, I get nowhere near that.

Can anyone advise? Or have you had similar experiences.?

That sounds way off. They do seem to have assumed that you get £89 a week. £6500/52=£125. However, if one takes off what you pay for accommodation, £3000/52=£57.69 so you are below their figure for weekly personal allowance. I'd get onto them and also contact the students' union welfare officer.

Good luck,
