Hi there

I have a £600 (payback is £750) with quick quid that I have been rolling over for over a year and bit now.. I went to roll it over last night and they had removed the button to request an extension even though I thought I had another 2 months on this currrent loan.

I don't have the money to pay it off at all this month and so I have had to cancel the direct debit - if I have done that is there any way they can still try and take money from my account? They do not have my direct debit card details, thank god!

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with them and trying to pay off the loan? I definitely don't want to run away from it but I am so fed up of paying them each month as well and am almost a little pleased that this had made me confront this problem and put a stop to them draining a minimum of £150 out of my bank account each month!

thanks in advance all

They may (and no doubt will!)try to set up the direct debit again. You need to send a letter to your bank (by recorded delivery - or take it into your branch) telling them they do not have permission to set up again.

You will also be bombarded will phone calls to every number they have for you!

I know that perhaps this is bad but they don't have my current details like my current address or telephone numbers as since I signed up with them I have moved house and jobs into the city. I haven't deliberately avoided telling them this by the way, just didn't think about the details that they had when reapplying for the loans and only just realised that they don't have my current details when I started looking on here for advice and saw that they do bombard you with phone calls!

Oh god, has this happened to anyone else with the direct debit? I have spoken to my bank and they have agreed with what Ell-enn has said as well.. if there is insufficient funds though will that stop it? What if there is say 400 in the account and the payment they want is 750? I don't have an overdraft facility and it is a solo account.. i am really so so worried that they are going to clear my account!

If this has happened to anyone else, how long did it take for them to reinstate the direct debit and withdraw funds?

Hey there,

If you are worried about them clearing your bank then set up a new bank account and move everything acorss. that way once you agree a repayment plan with them you could use that bank account to only pay them so they dont get anything more than agreed.

Have you contacted them yet to discuss a repayment plan?

Put it in writing to your bank (as soon as possible!) that you have not given permission for the direct debit to be re-instated.

As mentioned by lozzzy try to open a parachute account.

They are sneaky - luckily they don't have your debit card details. If you don't already have it - get internet banking and check regularly for new DD's. I'm not sure how the system stands on DD's, whether they can create several smaller ones - that's what they would do with a debit card - keep hitting it with smaller amounts until they either get their fill or the card is declined.

Hiya

Ell-enn and Lozzy both spot on with their advice (as usual!), not suffered this company particularly but it is a repeating theme I am afraid.

Not wishing to be alarmist and accepting probably a bit biased (I started in the payday loan section!). They will try to access and clear your account of what you "owe" and sometimes more (I had one of these firms by the short and curlies for doing it) whilst attempting to "justify" their action by claiming you effectively gave them a "continuous authority". I would phone the bank as well as the letter (not normal to recommend this I know but essentially you can be following up the call in writing). Get the name, department and extension number of the person at the bank who you tell to ensure no further direct debits or payments are allowed in favour of this company. If they have cheques in any form you need to stop these with the bank - if they are guaranteed this will be nightmare but with persistent they will do it.

The bank account thing is tricky - if this is your only connection with any of this type of lending, if you are entirely sure they have no way of accessing your account apart from direct debit and if you could sustain reclaiming the monies from the bank in the event they paid out once you acted as above then might be able to stay with this account (would still need to keep a close eye though). On balance though (and again from bitter experience) the only way to be completely sure is to move your banking to a new account (this is fairly drastic - but worth considering to protect your core monthly budget).

Repayment - always what you can genuinely afford. This bit seems to depend on what side the person dealing with you got out of bed that morning. I have some that (still) are not communicating at all, some threatening all but taking away my nearest and dearest as security, some over three months (which I could not afford) and a number that have accepted £25 per month. Once you have established what you can afford, stick to it, stuck record approach! Need to have their bank account details to pay by standing order (between us on here we have a lot of companies details!). I am disputing a number of debts and practices in this sector but they are all getting (or have been offered) repayments that will ensure they are paid back at least what was originally loaned.

Hang in there, and keep folk informed as you will not go wrong with advice given here - you will be okay :)

As suspected, the advice on here was spot on! Last night I checked my account online every hour or so and noticed at about 11pm that they had reactivated the DD -I cancelled it again, but whilst I was sleeping (it feels so sinister!) they have reactivated it and drained my account completely. Due to other things direct debits, this payment going out has left me £200 in the red on a unauthorised overdraft and the bank have frustratingly honoured the payment even though there was insufficient funds in the account, so now I will owe the bloody bank their £30 as well no doubt. I am so frustrated I could cry as the only way now for me to have any money this month is to reloan with them. What a horrible perpetual cycl they get you into...

Hello there,

I am sorry they have behaved to type and you have it right that they are looking to rope you in to becoming a perpetual income stream for them with re-loaning and extending. If there is any way you can avoid this (and I know it is not easy) then do because it will not be long before you have another problem and then will be looking at another one of these companies to tide you over and this only leads to a very dark place with several of them chasing you....

If you advised the bank more than 24 hours before the payment was due to cancel and told them not to authorise further payment then would be worth disputing the transaction with the bank. The speed at which they sort this out is very bank specific, if you emphasise the hardship caused and that any charges are a result of them paying the disputed direct debit you might find some success (I did on one occassion with First Direct).

Best of luck, keep folk posted :)

thanks for your advice, this site is invaluable!

Today the bank have returned the transaction to my account from QQ following my cancellation. I am worried that they will continue to activate DD on my account so will move my money today and open a basic bank account with another provider (any recommendations?)

I have logged onto the website and it is now detailing, as expected, that the account is in default. There is a message on the screen to call them to arrange a payment plan.

I know that this is perhaps very bad but I do not want to give them my present address and contact details as they can't harrass me at the moment, and additionally I would have to tell my boyfriend what an absolute idiot I have been with this type of loan. I really don't want to give QQ any reason to come to my door either and i don't trust them not to now the account is in default.

I am a bit worried about calling them though as there is no way of keeping a record of anything that I may agree with them - should I call them? Would I be able to emaill them?

Do not call them! Email them. You will get an email from them soon enough anyway saying that your DD is cancelled and call to arrange new one. Just reply to that email like I do.

Also, state to them that if they attempt to set up DD without authorisation you will report it as fraud.

Second what Bub has said - do not call them! Email or letter and you have a communication trail!

Put the line in about further DD being fraud whilst you are there and also (if not already) put the bank on absolute notice that they may attempt to reinstate a DD fraudulently.

I do not see a problem not wishing them to have your contact details per se but you must push the communications at them - daily if needed (via email) and use a stuck record approach (this is what I can pay, please provide account details for me to set up standing order etc....).

Keep going, you should see a result with this approach. :)

Keep emailing them. They will go round the houses to answer what you put into your emails but keep sending them the same one.

Eventually you might get the one I have just got asking me to pay via paypal or bankers draft all of which I said no.

They will get their payment eventually, you just need to be firm.

thanks so much both.

I have never updated any of my contact details with them including my email address (I do want to point out that I didn't do this deliberately, its was an oversight at the time which obviously is in my favour at the moment). The only email they have for me is an extinct work email for my last job. I am planning on using my yahoo account in orde to contact them and offering a payment plan over 4 months to get rid of the debt via standing order. Is this realistic and do you have an email address for them for me to write to?
