Are they entitled to pass my telephone number on to an collecting agency?

 

Bill is uptodate now but it wasn't but during the period of it being outstanding they passed my number on to somebody called AIC or similar who very kindly placed a message on my answering machine by way of their own automated robot asking me to get in touch with them. I ignored all of these requests but going back through them it appears they were phoning once or twice a day for nigh on 3 weeks, each time leaving an automated message for me to call them.

 

I thought my details were confidential to British Gas, why have they passed them on and are they entitled to do so? I've since disconnected

the number and will no longer be prepared to give BG anything other than

the cold shoulder.

I reside in Dawlish Warren but am not a rabbit.
