In May this year we received a Congestion charge penalty notice from London transport for our car which was supposed to be in London and not paid the charge. We live in the NE Scotland and the picture in the notice was completely different to ours. Someone lowlife had cloned the number plate and stuck it on a similar car.

We contested the charge with all the relevant proof that it wasn’t our car, we won the appeal. We contacted our local Police to notify them that our car was cloned to which we were told – It happens all the time, don’t worry about it.

I also informed the DVLA to which we have been told that anything else comes through the post we could get a new number plate. That’s fine and fair enough but why should we have to as its a Personal plate that's on as it was a pressie for hubby last year.

The DVLA also told us to contact our local plod again to get the number flagged on the national computer, so that if the other car was seen it would be pulled, so we went back to police station but got told they couldn’t do it.

Last night on way home from friend, we were pulled by police and they told us we had no insurance, MOT or road tax!!!!!!!

Luckily, everything was in the car, as the car had only been MOTed 6 weeks ago and road tax bought at the start of July.

Its a very distinctive little sports car that my hubby has taken time and effort to restore to original condition, and the cloned car is a different make all together.

Can we complain about the Police not taking this seriously in the first place? If so who do we complain to, as this will probably happen again?

If this thread is in the wrong section, can a mod move it to the correct one please? :D

i would think that by now the anpr system/operators is well aware of it.

i take it you explained this again to the oficers concerned.

it wouldn't hurt your cause to make a note of the lapel number/division of the offers involved.

then when you get stopped again. , they might, just might, start talking to each other if you fwd it on

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Luckily we had the Charge paperwork in the car, as OH had a wee niggle about the whole carry on. Police were Ok about it and off we went after 5 minutes and after they had a wee drool at the car!!
