I have recently applied for a job with an insurance company and they have advised me that they will be carrying out a credit reference check and require 5 years of addresses. I am reluctant to give them 5 years as I have a few defaults registered against me at an address I lived at 4 years ago and I do not want this to effect my chances of getting this job. If I was to play dumb and just give them 3 years will the address from 4 years ago come up on the search as I was on the electral roll at that address as well???

Just be honest with them - companies realise that people get in trouble and if your honest with them at the time of application they will respect you far more than if they find out you've hidden information from them. That could be grounds for dismissal as well.

Hope you get the job

Financial institutions will often carry out credit reference check to ensure you don't tarnish their good (?????) reputation.

Years ago they used to insit you banked with them as well and getting into debt was a sackable offence.

There were benifits such as better interest rates, cheap mortgages and such like though
