A DCA has no rights to demand anything from you. The reason they offer this "discount" is because they pay so little for the debts they collect on in the first place. Getting 50% back from you will make them a nice little profit.

 

If you were to pay this, then I would make damn sure you have it in writing, from them, that this is in full and final settlement. Otherwise you will find them harassing you for the other 50% at some point in the future!

The letter does say "Our client has invited us to extend a generous discount of 50% off the current balance shown above which if paid will be accepted as full and final satisfaction of this debt." Should have mentioned that this isn't a new debt, i've already been paying this for 2 years although i've only been able to pay 25 per month as i cannot work due to illness.
